Phone Holder / Wiring

I want to get a phone holder for the handlebars to run my GPS on my iPhone on long trips. Any suggestion on holder and moving the wiring from the back truck to the handle bars. Note - I am not very knowledgeable on wiring so if it is not super easy I will probably have to farm out the job.

I have phone holders

Check out the holders at
motorcycledave.com
Cycle Gear. com has the 12 volt plug setup
on sale It has the wire ane fuse all
set up for motorcycles I think
it was $12.95 easy hook up

Pro Grip makes holder for specific phones , some have charging plugs built in.Check ther Web site. You will need to run power up front if you want to keep phone charged. This is another option. Ther are many threads on the subject, you can do a search.

Ram mount and wire from trunk

I used the ram mount handle bar mount for my iPhone with gps. I ran a 10' usb iPhone cable from trunk to handlebars. Was pretty easy after removing the right side Tupperware, which you can watch tutorial on YouTube. It works great and required no hard wiring. You will need to drill small hole into rear trunk to feed wire through. Pm for pics if you like.

RAM Mount X-Grip for your phone. USB charger for power. Bluetooth for audio connection. Keep the existing wiring for your iPod.

Check out JT here on our forums. I have a dual USB in the dash in place of the stock gauges, from JT. Also a clock the is readable on the other side. You will then have digital gauges in your screen. Also picked up a collar with ram ball and spyder grip and drink holder from Lamont. Tom :spyder:

I purchased the Carchet Dual USB Power Port and wire harness for one of our site sponsers, JT. I installed the USB in the blank switch in the switch panel.

How hard was it to wire this? I'm very worried about hacking into wires.

Thinking LAmontsters phone mount is the way i'm gonna go, but I need to get a tether for it.

I installed a USB charging port using this video. I got the port off of Amazon for about 17 dollars and it works great. http://www.canamspyderaccessories.com/rt-dual-usb-charger/

FYI, if you have a new 2015 or up, the power wire is no longer there. Older Spyders had 4 wires to the gauges and one was a 12V power wired for the gauge light bulb. Perfect for tapping into. This video shows an older pre 2015 Spyder.
This is now gone as the newer gauges have a LED instead of a 12V bulb and are only 3 wires. Do not tap into those as they go through the cluster and won't handle a lot of AMP draw. You risk blowing your cluster.

Thank you Bob so much for the warning. I wanted to order this Dual USB plug for my 2017 RT LTD.

What would you suggest for my Spyder model to go with? I would really like to have two USB plugs in my handlebar area instead of the back. I am planning on using GoPro Hero 5 and Galaxy S8 in addition to the Garmin GPS.

Tatonka, I did check them all and I have to say I would prefer to have a clean install without the extra wires or additional mounts obstructing the neatness of my 2017 LTD. I want to leave the nuvi 590 GPS where it is as well.
I even emailed them asking for parts for the Dual USB rocker clean internal wire install and I was referred to check with SpyderLovers. I am so frustrated, I even posted a separate thread with links to all the parts I was thinking I could or would use and was pointed to the La Pierre great install video which shows the older model.

SpyderLovers is a great forum and I am very thankful for all the ideas and advices. I spent many hours reading this forum and researching the web without knowing exactly how to connect the Dual USB rocker to have a running engine only power, not continuous.

I did connect Battery Tender to the battery terminals already and I don’t think it would be a good idea to add additional wires for the USB. Maybe I need to spend extra money for the FZ-1 Fusebox or possibly Rowe PDM60 (which needs some computer setup that I am not sure I will be able to do as I am not an electrician). Do these come with wiring connection instructions?

I did purchase the 2016-2017 BRP Repair Manual already – it is complicated with 1579 pages. I will split the Spyder RT 2016 Electrical System page and print it for an easier view to hopefully follow the diagram.

One thing I don’t seem to find out is what is the best wire connection solution for the 2017 RT LTD models with a detailed information. I will be running the Samsung S8 and GoPro 5 continuously for 5-6 hours with nuvi 590 sometimes as well. Not being an electrician, I don’t want to blow the switch cluster running all these peripherals.

I used Quadlock on my RS and im in the middle of setting it up on my F3 using lamonster bar clamp and quadlock mounts, wireless charging and factory clean look.
