• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi folks,

Earlier to day I was headed up a 4-lane boulevard and had to stop for a red light.

I was about three cars back and in the #1 lane. Then a Mustang pulls up next to me, on my right in the #2 lane, and stops also.

Suddenly: KABOOM

Someone crashes right into the Mustang from the rear. I quickly look back and see this 20-something young woman in an SUV with the entire front of her car smashed completely; and she is still texting on her phone.

Now that is one determined woman!!!!!

Yikes..!!

she must have had something to say..!! the day will come when you get in your car and the phone will only work as a phone. Messaging will be disabled...:yikes:

I personally think that if the auto manufacturers could set up a "damping field" around the driver's position; auto accidents rates would begin to drop as the new technology spreads through the marketplace.

There was a court case in New Jersey last year where the court ruled that the sender of a text message can potentially be liable if an accident is caused by texting, provided it could be proven that the sender knew the recipient was driving. People are always looking to blame someone else,

Watched a news clip last night about studies discussing distractions from the new technologies in vehicles, like the multi-function lcd display. Instead of making controls easier, it now causes more distraction to make control adjustments.

Did you stick around as a witness? The fact that she was texting when the wreck happened and you witnessed the act will land her a felony criminal negligence charge in most states now rather than a simple traffic citation. She deserves to do time for such a thoughtless and willing wrongful act.

If more felony charges were leveled for these criminal acts, there would be far more deterrence.

She probably was just posting to her FaceBook Account...
"OMG!!! Some dummy just stopped short in front of me, and I tapped his bumper...
Now I'll be late to Zumba! :gaah:

Seems like unless you saw her texting at the time she hit them she could argue that she was just texting about the accident after it happened. I don't know if police are allowed to look at her phone without some kind of warrant or not, maybe so.

Just being a witness is enough to get the cell phone records pulled. From there, its slam dunk.

I am now at the point that every time I get ready to slow down or stop that I check my rear to see if I may be hit by someone. It is getting more scary as the days go by.

A look at most drivers around you will indicate they are mostly texting. I have also seen several reading a book while driving.

With all the technology, I don't see why phones cannot be disabled when the car is in motion. Let them pull over to retrieve or send messages. Just my .02.

my moto x has a mode called driving assist and if you put it in this mode you cannot pick it up and text while the car is in motion. You can however use voice commands to send a text or make a vocie call. You do not have to put it in this mode every time you enter the car. If you just turn the mode on it will sense when you are in the car and automatically go into driving assist mode.

Hi jc,

Re: Did you stick around as a witness?

I did not. I was on my way to a doctor appointment and did not have the luxury of time. In the past, I have stopped and volunteered to be a witness.

Re: If more felony charges were leveled for these criminal acts, there would be far more deterrence.

I think answering to her husband would be punishment enough. Oh, and the increase in insurance rates.

I am opposed to texting/hands on phones while driving. For a simple fender-bender IMO that would be wrong to have it escalate to a felony charge.

My son used to be a prosecutor and then a defense attorney; I know how serious a felony is.

Yes, a felony conviction is life alturing. So are the results of texting while driving and that is the point of the revised laws. A few more of these convictions and perhaps a few more folks will FINALLY get the point that you JUST DONT DO IT.

Id much rather see a texter that caused a fender bender go to jail than a biker doing nothing wrong end up in a hearse.

Its time motorists learned.

exit soap box mode now.....

:agree: Sometimes; folks won't learn a lesson right; until they learn it the HARD way... :banghead:
Too bad for them; but I'll lose no sleep, over what they do to themselves... :D

Hi jc,

Re: exit soap box mode now.....

No 'soap box mode' necessary; we just disagree on what the level of punishment should be. Nothing new or wrong in that,

I've seen signs posted on I-84 & I-87 in NY. Three texting violations, & you lose your license. Sounds good to me.
