There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Performance upgrades

I am looking to make some upgrades to MY 2012 RS-S and finding anything or anyone whom can do what I want is not going well. So I thought I would ask here and see if somebody could point me in the right direction. I know that an intake with a K&N filter, a juice box (or power commander), and a performance exhaust are available upgrades, but I am looking for more. Does anybody know of other options, or mechanics whom can help me in my quest for more power? I appreciate any and all input, thanks.

Just sayin'............

Sorry can't help but if you do a search on here I know there has been some guys that have done some more radical things to their Spyders.
Have you tried an F3 yet? Yes that would be an expensive mod but I will tell you this the F3 is FAST!! I test rode one yesterday and was very impressed with the speed and handeling hands down the best cornering Spyder yet

Don't know..!!

About up your way..the air filter change with pipe is a boost I added some ram air to the filter 20150123_130234_resized.jpg pipe with/without baffle 20150202_154338.jpg plugs and wires. If you were closer I could help...

What are you looking to accomplish and what is your budget?

I just want more than what I have found. I love the 990, and do not mind winding it up to make power. I have become accustom to the power I have and want to see how much more I can get. I am not looking to throw 20K at a $15,000 machine, but up to 5K sounds like a good start for me. Besides can one really put a price on happiness??:D

Just sayin'............

Nevermind...this isn't the place for this conversation.
Best of luck otter. There are a lot of options out there but you will have to think outside the box a bit.

THREAD BIG BORE KITS

If you do an advanced search on Big Bore kits you will see some posts that you can get a turbo charger for around 5,500 it was an Aero-Charger something or other I guess some guy used to sell them at Spyder fest gives you like 45 more horsepower

turbo ????

Does anyone know how the people who did the Turbo thing get around BRP's computer management ........Mike

There's a company that regularly advertises on TradeMe (our version of eBay) that say they can remap the ECU's. They have a standard upgrade that says it takes the Spyder from 100hp 104Nm to 120Hp 125Nm.

Here's one of their ad's:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/parts-for-sale/performance/auction-845945598.htm

I don't know much more than that but I have asked on the local forum to see if anyone has actually done this. Will let you know if I hear anything. Obviously geographically it could be challenge.

Just found the following review of the service on the local forum:

http://www.meetup.com/Spyder-Riders-NZ/messages/boards/thread/48543020

In case you can't open that here's the text:

"Hi all, I was having trouble with my st ltd running rich at idle and lean at the higher revs. this was because I have had a cat eliminator installed running into two brothers twin mufflers and have removed the airbox and resonator and installed a high flow intake and filter I took my toy to Jason at waterworxs in Stillwater (Auckland). and had him do the high performance ecu reprogram. 120hp. 125nm and the rev limit raised to10.000. wow!!!!! instant response to throttle, now running like a sewing machine. riding home I had to keep checking to make sure I was in 5th gear as the performance was incredible and I felt I was in 3rd gear. next day I had to try it out, as it felt like I had been dreaming. out to a short private road, 126 @9800 in 2nd. 148@9800 in 3rd, had to wait for my head to catch up then some hard braking before running out of road (,driveway) the main thing im trying to say is that if its performance & reliability. you want get hold of Jason ."

PS remember the speeds he mentions are in kmph not mph:-)

I don't know a lot about engine tuning, but the Rotax 998 is the same engine that Aprilia was using. I believe they were getting something on the order of 140 HP.
The engine was detuned for the Spyder. I don't know what the modifications were, but on the face of it, I would think you could enhance the Spyder's performance back up to the 140 mark.

OK-
-Easy and cheap would be to add a dry 50 shot. Pretty easy to tune and setup but limited on use and practicality.
-If your looking for tuning what you already have you'll need to find someone who can work with the Seimens ECU. Look at the performance Seadoo forums and hope for someone to play nice. Right now there are only 1-2 guys who can do it but they will not likely know what parameters you want changed. Also, most of those guys aren't into sharing unless you know someone. Maybe AF1 can help with that end. Worth a call.
-Stand alone Motec. A kit doesn't exist that I'm aware of but probably the best Motec tuner in the world happens to own a spyder (is on here time to time) and could chime in if it's possible. I'll let him decide if he wants to share....
-1060 AF1 Aprilia kit. Full Aprilia electronics. Maybe add a bigger wet shot on top of that?? Easy 200+hp.

You really need to decide what your looking to do and what you want to put into it. Your not going to find the info you are looking for on here. This just isn't a real performance oriented crowd. AF1 is probably the place to be to read up on these motors and tweaking.

If you do dig into it, post a build thread. I'd for sure be interested in reading it! Good Luck! ;)

I will tell you the same thing I tell the crotch rocket guys that come poking around my spyder.

"how fast does that thing go?"

"oh, about 110"

"my bike goes over 210"

"oh, I thought the speed limit was only 75"

I have had that same conversation except my reply at the end was 'Really? with you on it?"

You are under the impression that I care what you think about what I am looking to do with MY machine, MY money and MY time. I didn't ask you how fast yours goes, so I don't need any reply from you. Next time if you have nothing to add other than judgement, don't waste my time.

Otter, bear with a dinosaur for a bit...

There are all sorts of ways to get more hp out of an engine. The first thing is let it breathe. The stock air filter, EFI and muffler are choking the machine. Poor performance = EPA happy. Fix that first.

After that, if you're not satisfied, mod some more.

Don't know what's out there today as far as esoteric tuning, but make sure whoever is saying whatever works, has over 10k with that mod. Something about chest-thumpers comes to mind...

Do one mod at a time so you know what works and what doesn't.

As far as doing the quarter mile, it's all about the jockey, not the horse. I've learned that lesson and doing better every year.:doorag:

Don't post if you don't want comments. If you want to blow up a perfectly good machine, be my guest :)
