• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

people in front pull over?

The headlight shutter when on low beam bounces. Causing some to think you are flashing your lights. Others may tell you you have a light that's flickering.

Never ride in the daylight with low beams on. Untill the pick ups with HID lights quit blinding me I ride with high beams all the time. Properly adjusted low beams won't flicker but they do not throw light very far ahead.

Better they are too bright then they can't see you coming. Get your wife her own Spyder then you won't have that problem :roflblack:

Yep, as soon as we get her car paid off, she's getting a new 2015 Spyder R/T, then I will lead the way with my RS/S, bright lights and no complaints. :)

Flickering lights

And to think that some people pay to have the light modulator put in to make their headlights flicker to be more visible...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking

And to think that some people pay to have the light modulator put in to make their headlights flicker to be more visible...

yesterday when I first read this thread! Too late now! :) The modulator is installed and the headlights are back in. Really, though, based on my experience riding the Goldwing the modulator is a great safety item. There were a number of times I saw cagers start to pull out onto the road in front of me and then stop. Once in awhile someone would obviously think I was a cop and pull over when I came up behind them, or maybe the modulating light irritated them. In any case I just said, "Thanks," and went on around them. Made passing them a lot easier!:)

I had to have my Right-side head light replaced because my High/Low beam did not work. This was under warranty and it was done in Aug. of 2012. I bought my Spyder in July of 2012. Deanna777

Funny...never had it happen until today..twice.

The wife, daughter and I were out for a ride after work part on the interstate and part around town and had cars pull over in both parts. The first time we just kind of wondered and then figured it out and my wife sort of giggled. The second time she started laughing so hard and long she could hard see to steer. :roflblack::roflblack:

It did seem like her headlight bounced a bit more than mine, but then again, I probably just bounce with mine.

The Spyder RS and RT have projection headlight lenses, that cast a narrow beam. In the daytime the focused portion of the beam will tend to bounce in and out of view of oncoming drivers or drivers looking in their mirrors. To them it looks like you are flashing your lights at them. All motorcycles, being lightweight vehicles, tend to do this when they bounce, but the narrow beam cast by the projector lenses makes the effect much stronger. Having the headlights adjusted too high, having the rear suspension set too soft, or even carrying a passenger can raise the beam and make things worse. Adjust your headlights a little lower and/or increase your rear suspension setting/preload and ride with your high beams on during the day to lessen this problem. If it makes you feel any better, I also ride an ex-CHP BMW (in Michigan) and they pull over when they see that coming, too.

Thanks for the info, I've had a few people coming the other way flash or wave and I wondered why, at first I'd thought they were warning me of a police speed trap:-) I had made sure the lights were properly adjusted but it is obviously still an issue, I'll try out high beam in the day instead.

If you have the Euro lights over there, instead of the North American single pir of lenses with shutters for low beam, your problem would be strictly one of aim. Remember that the headlights are to be aimed with the normal rider/passenger load aboard the seat.

I tried keeping the high-beams on when riding in the daytime, but other oncoming drivers would flash their lights at me... even in the daytime, the Spyder high-beams are too bright apparently and were blinding oncoming traffic. :dontknow:

Ya'll sure you don't have something loose in your headlight assemblies letting them jiggle around a bit?

I've got two sets of marks for the low beam on my garage wall - one based on the measurements in the manual for when I'm on the Spyder, the other is when I'm not on the Spyder that include the 'deflection' caused by my weight being removed. This makes it easier to adjust because I can set it up while off the Spyder and then just get on to check it's right.

However had a bit of a brainwave after reading these posts. My drive is made up of large concrete slabs and though in theory they are level they did get moved about during the earthquakes a couple of years back. I got my spirit level out and found the one that's the right distance from the wall to setup the lights slopes slightly. Not visibly noticeable but it turned out it was enough to knock the position of the lights out by about 6 inches on the wall. I've now redone the lights after putting some wood down to level things out so we'll see how that goes.

I think high beaams and properly adjusted headlights are the answer.
I am not a fan of modulators, althought they are 50 state legal by federal blackmail. I know a lot riders like them but I have know people who pulled over then made comments like @#$%^& motorcycle riders. I prefer bight colors his viz, personal choice of course.

Will add one about over for things behind you. Honda Homecoming (since cancelled) in Ohio. Marysville and Bellfountain are like 20 miles apart. Marion County IN Police drill team put on shows in both cities. We asked if we follow them between cities. Ever seen 24 motorcycle do the same thingas a show and on the road. They said okay, so we did. Came up behind a guy in a older pick up doing less then the speed limit we were doing. He whipped off the road and slid to stop. the group went on by. When we stopped we asked th members if that happened often ?/ He kind of laughed and said yes. Then he asked,

What would you do if you looked up and saw 24 obivious Police motorcycles behind you ? then he said, we try not to ride in formation on the road to not have that happen. Great bunch of riders. Great show
