• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Payments will be the biggest factor.

I just have been sitting around too much this winter, but I've been studying the 2014 RT with great interest, especially on this forum. I am on a fixed retirement pension and have to have monthly payments that don't break me. As much as I like the RT Limited, the $30,499 price tag puts it out of reach for me. The RT-S being at $28,049 for an electric shift SE6 might be stretching, but an SM6 might work at $26,499 and with my bike at max trade-in might get me a $250 a month payment for 5 years. A base model RT with SE6 comes in at $24,999 and doing the math comes in at around $230 a month. The SM6 base RT at $22,999 gets me around 215 a month. I have to kind of think ahead about what I can handle budget wise. I'm still sitting on that fence yet, but I am thinking this through first.

what ever

what ever you decide good luck. i am in the same situation money wise and if i didn't need to buy a new car this year i might also make the change and move up to a 14 rt/s

Too much time....

I know the winter gives me too much time to sit around and think about things like that. But at least I'm thinking.

Have you tried looking at the Credit Unions, some may even give you a better interest rate that some of the banks

Wait and spend this year saving every cent you can.

Wait and spend this year saving every cent you can. Then, when that '14 LTD gets discounted at the end of the year you will be able to have the best of both worlds. Something tells me waiting will be harder than saving. But, the end result will be worth the effort. Best of luck...whatever you do.

The above can be very hard decisions. Only you know what you will ultimately be able to afford monthly payment wise. Sometimes the least expensive option is not the one that is the best. Buyer's remorse can kick in. (I should have got the semi auto, etc., etc.) You are at approx. two tiers of amenities on the :ani29: and the difference is $15 per month on one and $20 per month on the second. If money is that tight, it might be better to hold off the purchase. I am in the same boat, fixed SS and whatever I earn from my teaching gig at the University. I decided not to finance a 2014 due to the payment commitment. We just never know what five years down the line will bring. If you do finance, make sure that you are not upside down on the loan--at least you have an easy out if things change financially.

You mention retirement so I assume you are not a spring chicken.. My 2010 spyder was an sm5 and the pain in my fingers from arthritis made it terrible for me at times. my 2012 and 2014 are SEs and the change was wonderful.. think long and hard about your hands on cold days before going with the SM to save a few bucks

Hang in there

I can feel you all's pain. But try to look at from another view point. Hold off getting the new toy syndrome as long as you can. I don't see the possibility of a 2014 end of the year (EOY) this year unless bad things start to appear between now and the EOY.

Should BRP make it to the EOY without making any significant modifications structurally, mechanically, or electrically then we should be seeing a EOY clearance sale.

The only caveat to waiting is it gives you time to build your bankroll and let those that bought in to the cutting edge or I got to be first on the block to have one syndrome. Maybe the accessory manufacturers will have caught up with the product too.

I don't need to trade yet my 11 does not have enough miles on it to trade yet.

Unless you are really set on a 2014, find a new 2012. Pretty much problem free and a whole lot less expensive.

Tough one..!!

You have to go with what you can afford. Looks like you have studied your possibilities. The how soon will be an issue because it will all change as the months roll by. If it's the 2014 you want now you did the math. You could go for other years and make it really comfortable for yourself ryde for a spell and trade up later. Whaterver you swing good luck and hope to see you on the road....

Buy what you can afford, and love what you buy!
:lecturef_smilie: Never second-guess yourself.. and NEVER, NEVER get talked into a situation, by a well-meaning friend...

Nothing at ALL wrong with the Base RT SM5, That's what I got New for 17,000 and Tax.
If you listen to ear buds (Like Many) you have No Need for a radio and it even comes with a radio Now I think. Managing 2 Spyders and a New Jet ski coming on a Military retirement and SS made it cost effective for me to get the base model ! Piece of Mind is Wonderful!!!

I have a rule pay cash save till I can but in the worse case 24 month financing if I need more time then I cannot afford it...........look a the risk or "What's the worse that can happen"?

bottom line with 5 year financing you will be upside down in that machine from day one and the extra you will pay in interest makes that one very expensive machine.

Save some one cash and a little at time put it into your present ride make it what you are proud to own and drive.

I would say good luck with you're decision but Luck has nothing to do with it because you are in control aren't you?

On the fence....

I don't know how old you are. I am 70. I was doing long-distance bike riding, competitive sailing, 4- wheeling and canoeing up to age 65, till my body started liimiting what I can do.
I still work three days a week. I probably should have not bought a Spyder to be fiscally conservative, but the Spyder keeps me out of the recliner and on the go rather sitting around and listening to my arteries harden. My 2014 RT LTD keeps me up , interested, on the move and excited! I don't know how many months I have left to wait on a deal (a lot I hope), but I feel time is precious. One llfe is not enough. Good luck on your decision.

My credit union has 2.5%

I used a calculator and the 2.5 percent at my credit union. I based my trade-in on Kelley Blue Book and figured my 6.5% sales tax and a little more for title fees etc. I was looking at 5 years of financing to make payments.

That seems like a pretty good interest rate. Have you actually talked with a Spyder dealer? Even on a 2014, a dealer may be in a position to save you a few bucks by offering discounts on accessories, labor, dealer prep, document fee, etc. And BRP is adding, at no cost, two years of the BEST warranty. This warranty offer expires THIS FRIDAY, January 31st. I was treated well at JohnnyK's Powersports in Lodi, OH at the intersection of I-71 and OH Rt 83.

There are some GREAT deals out there right now on new 2013s. You can land an RT-S for well under $20k and a limited for just over.....

That's 10k less.
