There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Parking Brake ?

When I was a young construction worker, we were assigned a beat up old International crew cab for a work truck. The parking brake was toast. We stopped at a coffee shop, and parked on an incline, but the truck kept rolling back. Quickly thinking, I jumped out and stuck my fiberglass hardhat behind the wheel. When we left the coffee shop, we forgot about it, until the truck tire was squarely on top. That lasted about five seconds, until the hardhat shattered and collapsed. Unfortuantely, we had run into the department director and the superintendent at the coffee shop, and they saw the whole thing. The hardhat problem was nothing, compared to the chewing out I endured. Do not use your helmet to block the Spyder wheel. :roflblack:

Scotty? I would have made the argument that that was a good test for a work helmet. Not only did it stop the work truck from rolling and perhaps damaging another vehicle or building. It also proved that the helmet wouldn't protect your head from a falling object, like an International Crew Cab work truck. :roflblack:

This problem only affected the early Spyders, mostly the PE GS version.
My RT (and Lamont's too) had a BIG problem with the parking brake. It has to do with the electric actuator (which is a wheel that turns and pulls the brake cable). When we went to disengage the brake, the cable would pop out, rendering the brake inoperative. Don't think this is your problem, or is it?

Yes, some RTs have had this issue, which is different from the early GS parking brake problem, which was related to poorly machined parts.

I wrote in earlier post, but did you get the notice about the faulty parking brake? Was this work done? If not, you should have it done...it fixes the problem...
When did the notice come out? I don;t believe that I ever received it. If it was fairly recent, I am sure it will be done with my next service. If not the dealer probably didn't get the notice either. They are REALLY good at keeping everything up to date with up=dates. My last service was in October.

I don't have a PE version and mine was affected...dealer changed it with a bike they were using as a demo...was a 'recall' or whatever issue...
Yes, it did affect a few others beyond the PE run. It was either a Warranty Campaign or a Technical Service Bulletin. It was not a recall. Owners were not notified, and it did not show up under their VIN# on BRP's computer system. An owner had to complain about the problem, and then their VIN# had to be looked up on the written Service Bulletin. Sorry, I do not recall the Service Bulletin number. It was issued in 2009, as I recall. Most parking brake issues are not related to this, but are a result of misadjustment of the parking brake, and a need to clean and lube the mechanism under the left footpeg.

Thanks Scotty,
I thought that the "slacking" was just due to use. I try not to over extend the pressing of the pedal. but after awhile it is one more click and then another that is needed to hold the Spyder on an incline.
I find that if I am off of the bike (not always possible on much of a hill) it takes less pressing to hold.
I will ask my dealer about it as he adjusts it everytime it is in for service. I recieved mine in October 2008

That is typical. The adjustment procedure is in your manual, and in some videos here, if you get adventurous. The Service Bulletin addressed a problem with the mechanism that either failed to latch or stuck in the latched position, not changing adjustment.

Scotty, we're getting old (by service bulletins and recalls, that is)...however it went down, it's all good now!
