Parking brake question.

Hello all.
I have a parking brake question. I searched and couldn't find the answer.
I moved from a 2008 GS to a 2012 RT LTD.
One of the 1st thing I noticed is that it appears you MUST engage the parking brake before you shut down the bike OR you get the very annoying beeping for what seems like 10 minutes.
Now most times I remember but there are times when I just plain forget.
My question is "is there any way to avoid the process of turning the bike back on.. waiting for the full start up cycle... engaging the brake.. turning the bike back off"? This seems to take forever!!!
I cant be the only knucklehead that forgets to engage the brake at least once per ride.
(Of course there are many smart people on this forum so I just might be the only one!!!!)
Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Bummer..!!

but the sound and process is there to make you learn...:roflblack: Just thinking out load...!! ours is manual..!!

You don't have to wait for the full computers boot up it will engage after a few seconds of waiting. When it gets annoying enough you won't forget.

This is the time to bow down and just apply the brake switch. You don't want your spyder crawl around
anyway:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

:agree: No need to wait for the boot up. Just turn the key back on, set the brake, and turn it off.

Ummmm....

My 2011 RT-S does not beep if I forget to turn on the parking break.
Is that a problem? Some setting that is turned off?
My model only has a switch not a parking break pedal like some models and yes I do sometimes forget to turn it on before turning off the key :banghead:

Someone with a 2011 will have to answer that one... I know they're adding beeps and alarms all the time on these things...
My 2012 will beep if I turn it off without setting the brake (SE-5, switch on center console). The 2013's have an added beep I heard while at the demo rides - Now I forget what that nagging was about...

Maybe the SM5 does not have the beep as you can leave it in gear anyway?

My 2011 manual says nothing about a beep. But when I test drove a 2012 SE5, it beeped.

Oh. you have the manual transmission? Yeah, on that one you probably don't get the alarm since you can park it in gear. The SE5 will "free wheel" when shut off.

Does it by chance beep if you park it in Neutral without the parking brake set?

:agree: This also works for me. Turn on the key again and push the P brake button. You don't have to wait for the full boot-up.

When I want to move my 2011 RTS SM5 around I leave the parking break off and the transmission in neutral (or sometimes not) when I shut it down. No beeps only the throttle body buzz.

SE5's beep as it says in the owner guide and SM5's do not. SE5's it is recommended to shut down the engine in neutral and SM5's in first gear.

The SM5 does not have a parking brake alarm.
