Painted Wheel Trim

I am looking for pictures of those who have purchased the wheel trim kit for the 6 spoke wheels and painted the trim to match their Spyder. I purchased one and it arrived yesterday when the intent on painting it to match my Spyder. Looking for painting tips and ideas and photos to see how it looks. :doorag:

I couldn't possibly be the only one?? I'm thinking Krylon plastic paint and an adhesive promoter.

By itself I can see why... kinda flimsy. But I think it would look pretty snazzy painted yellow or red to match a yellow or red Spyder... oh well, if I'm the only one then that's cool by me. I'm always looking for a way to stand out from the crowd - which is one reason I have a Spyder. Anything but ordinary! I'll post pics up when I'm done.

sounds good, actually I think there are a couple of owners who had the trim painted

If the rings are plain plastic, the Krylon Fusion should cover them well without an adhesion promoter. Be careful, though, test it on something else first. Even if you warm the spray can it seems to have a tendency to comy out sort of pebbled, and not smooth. Another alternative is model car spray paints. Lots of colors, and they are plastic compatible, but the cans are very small.

I plan on painting mine red to match my bike.

I also might need to look into powdercoating my wheels since I was at the bank drive thru and got too close to the curb... T'd me off!!!! My own fault.

I have had a set, with a helmet at the body shop for 6 weeks. he said it will be soon, :banghead:tommorow he will sell his shop, new owner says he will paint them ASAP:clap::2thumbs:, they both will be the yellow color:thumbup:

Powder coating is a great way to go.Yyou can get almost any color now and it is literally bullet proo. Sold the bike but had the frame powder coated and for 15 years you could just wipe the frame down and it looked as god as day one

LOVE IT! Thanks for the pics. I painted mine tonight, turned out real nice. I'll snap some photos in the light tomorrow. It was dark by the time they were dry enough to handle and install. If they last a few years, I'll be happy.

That turned out really good. I'm still debating on doing it to mine. What kind of paint did you use? Also, what color. It looks like it is a good match.

I used an adhesive promoter and some high-heat engine paint I had from when I was going to paint the manifold on my Porsche and never did. I just did thin even coats.... put on about 4 coats of the primer and 4 coats of the paint. Probably wasn't the best paint to use, but it seems to work. I let it dry a little between coats and then put some heat on them and let them set up for about 3 hours before I installed them. So far, so good. Gotten a few compliments already on them. I am really digging the way they turned out. Really ties the red / silver theme together.
