• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. P0340 Code

2015 RTS SE - Coming home from work on Wednesday, looked down to see a LIMP HOME on the screen. Looked back up, then back down, now gone. Looked up, then back down, now see the check engine icon. This continued the next 2 miles to home.

Shut down and pulled key. Dinner, searched the forum for some info, gave up and went to bed. Next morning on the way to work, check engine icon going on and off every 10 - 15 seconds. It's only 3-1/2 miles to work so I wasn't worried. When I got to work, before turning off the engine, I did the three button shuffle to pull the code and got a P0340, Crankshaft Position Sensor (love my SpyderCodes app). Took a photo of the screen. Called dealer who is only 3 - 4 miles away and made arrangements to drop bike off after work. Got another Limp Home display on the way to the dealer. Note: At no time did I ever have any reduced engine performance. Everything was on the display only.

Friday - Dealer says they need to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Waiting for parts, hoping for mid next week.

Question: Bike about due for oil change. Have everything from Baja Ron ready to do this but was thinking, if they are taking a bunch of tupperware off already, maybe the dealer would cut me a deal to do the oil change while they had it. Can anybody tell me how much plastic has to come off for a Crankshaft Position Sensor replacement?

I they've got to get to the engine to pull the sensor; they'll have it stripped down more than enough for the oil change... Have them do it!
Will they cut you a break on the labor? :dontknow:
How's your negotiating skills?? :D

It looks like the crankshaft position sensor is on the lower left side of the engine. That may not be a help for you and your oil change since the panels that need to come off are on the right side.

Bob and Ann -

Looks like we are split 50/50 at this point. I'll try to call in tomorrow and see what they have to say. I'll let you all know. Thanks for the responses.

I think , your RT S 2015 still under warranty from factory , they won't charge you for fix

Depends....

On the shop and the tech's. Never hurts to ask although they get nothing if you are supplying all the parts....:dontknow: Glad they found the problem and are getting you fixed up...

Looks like SpyderAnn01 was correct in regards to the tupperware removal. The shop just confirmed that removing panels for the crankshaft position sensor warranty fix wouldn't change the pricing for an oil change. However, they did tell me that their labor for an oil change was only $35!! Parts extra, of course. I already have all of my oil change components from BajaRon and I want to go with the Mobil 1 4T oil so I'll probably just do it myself anyway but this is good pricing for any of you folks in the San Diego / El Cajon area. The dealer is Vey's Powersports in El Cajon.

:D Only $35.00??

I thought it was pretty good too so I stopped after work. They agreed to use the filter, o-rings and crush washers that I had already purchased from BajaRon. The good news was that even though I couldn't find any Mobil 1 Racing 4T anywhere in town, including two different Walmarts, I finally found out that the dealer actually carried that oil. The bad news is that it was $16 a quart. Kind of puts a damper on the $35 labor price but still pretty good good value overall and I couldn't find the oil anywhere else. This dealer, Vey's Powersports, continues to be a step above.

Wrap up on P0340 code

Well, shop had the bike for 6 days total. I took it in with a P0340 code and they confirmed it as needing a new crankshaft position sensor. Ordered the part from Canada. When I picked it up I asked how big of a deal it was to replace, he said that these don't take that much work to swap out. All on warranty so don't know what it would have cost.

The good news is that we put on about 175 miles this weekend with no recurrence of any warning lights or other symptoms. Bike ran great, all is well. Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this one.
