Lately I seem to be having problems going 5 mi. on surface streets without the bike overheating and going into limp mode. I find that if I can keep the thing moving it's OK and runs around 3 to 4 bars. But if I have to set at 3 or 4 signals, what I would call normal traffic, it heats up quick. I've been riding in those conditions since I've had the bike (18 mos.) without any problem until now. It sounds like a thermostat problem but I'm not a machanic and honestly don't even know if this thing has one.. It runs fine on the freeway. Has anyone else had this problem? :helpsmilie:

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Check the fan relay in the front fuse box. There are three the same size---swap them around... that will also re-seat any loose ones.
Install the manual override fan switch mod. Works wonders, lets you turn the fan on earlier and of course is wired directly from a switched fuse line so it bypasses the fan relay thus elliminating the issue of the fan not coming on because of a faulty relay or at least a nbackup method of turning the fan on when the relay does or has failed.

The override switch is another option but really, your Spyder should not be overheating in the conditions you describe. I would find and fix the actual problem first, then add the override switch for extra piece of mind.
Yes it was the relay. I switched it with the lights and took it for a spin and it ran like it should. I'll get the bad one replace and also carry a spare. One other thing I'll do is carry some anti-freeze in an old water bottle should I lose it all again. Thanks again for all the help.

That relay might not be bad. If you switched it with the light relay and the lights and the fan worked, you just had the fan relay come loose and re-seating it would have solved your problem. Others have posted about adding another piece of thin foam in the top of the fusebox / relay cover to help hold the relays down or add a small dab of silicone sealant to the base of the relays to hold them down. Of course, having an extra relay is good also.
When I switched the relays the fan worked fine but the lights would not so I'm assuming the fan relay is bad. I checked with the my service dept. and they have them in stock. On another thread people were saying they were hard to find so I'll get a couple of spares. I appreciate your advice and will try your suggestion. Thanks.

:thumbup: If you swapped the relays and the lights didn't work, that proves that the relay is bad.
