• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Overheating again!! Help!

My 09 is overheating again!!:banghead:, This time it overheats every time i'm at a stand still like at stop lights or even at very low speeds, last time it was intermitent and the dealer couldn't find nothing wrong with it, i wanted to get some opinions before i take it back.
Thanks!!
Lupe.

All i can think of is that the Thermostat isn't opening up [sticking]

Move to Iowa. It will not overheat this time of year.:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:
Last toy run we did it was 27 degrees, and it did overheat, if i bury it in the snow and leave it there until the snow plow gets there it may solve the problem:clap:

Wow! That is one hot Spyder! I'll wait to see what the experts decide. Good luck!

That is what i was thinking, i was freezing my butt off and my spyder was overheating!!!
The fan was on but it did not seem to be blowing hot air, it is weird but i hope they will figure it out:pray:

That is my first and only guess, anybody has any idea where the thermostat is and how hard is it to replace?

The thermostat is in the thermostat housing, I think it's a one one piece unit.
On the right side a little above and behind the fan, sorry about my description I'm doing this by memory'
The housing looks a little like a diving bell follow the black radiator hoses, Not a hard part to change out ,The part runs about 35 dollars plus clamps and antifreeze.
Hope this helps.

Yes it helps!!! thanks, i will get after it!!!

:agree: thermostats and heat sensors will be the main reason for those kind of readings. If it that cold out it may be hard to tell if it really is over heating. check both sensor and thermostat.

1. Loose/failed fan relay
2. Loose blown fan fuse
3. Low coolant
4. Stuck thermostat
5. Bad water pump
6. Bad fan
7. Blown head gasket

Eliminate the possibilities one by one.

great list. he said fan was blowing in post #7 ... so that eliminates some of them.

he said radiator air was cold ... no hot water circulating ... hope, at 27 degree air temp, the anti-freeze was working:(.

If his info is correct it isn't #1 or #2. Could be #3 but that's easy to check. Hopefully he's eliminated the easy ones.

My bet is on #4. But it could be #5.

Again, #6 is eliminated with #1 & #2.

Usually #7 will be much worse under load than sitting at idle. Though if it is #4 you would think that would be more problematic under load as well.

It could even be #8 (as mentioned above) frozen coolant if the mix is wrong.

As usual, we'll have to wait and see.

Hopefully this did not happen after pulling the trailer loaded with the Ninja!
Ha ha ha!!!!
I did not get that far, after all the feedback i had i put the project on 86
OK lets see;
1) Coolant is normal
2) Relay is good
3) At speed it does good so headgasket is ruled out
4) Fan works

That leaves me with;
) Bad water pump
) Bad sensor
) Bad thermostat

Did i missed anything?

So is it over heating or does the gauge say it is over heating? If it is actually over heating at stand still, it sure sounds like a circulation problem. Maybe remove the thermostat and see if problem vanishes, no cost involved.

If the sensor is bad, the gauge will not read correctly. If you peg the gauge, change the thermostat (thermostat housing in Spder terms).

If you take the thermostat out put in some water on the stove and start heating the water. I don't know what temp the spyder opens, but monitor the temp of the water and see if it opens. If so then it may be the pump. JAS

When my 2009 started over heating it was a tiny crack in the coolant tank..Mark replaced the tank...$60...never had the problem again

Were you loosing coolant? I don't think i am, from stand still the bars keep going up until the thermostat icon comes on and the hot warning displays across the dash.
