• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Overheating again!! Help!

Were you loosing coolant? I don't think i am, from stand still the bars keep going up until the thermostat icon comes on and the hot warning displays across the dash.

You can have the dealer put it on BUDS and it will tell you what your temp really is and you can go from there. My guess would be water pump but that's only a guess.

at 1st we never saw any coolant leaking...by the 3rd or 4th time...Mark got in there and could see leakage ...was never very much...but kept it from proper pressure

All of our well meaning guesses aren't going to keep you from having engine damage. I highly recommend getting down to the dealer and having BUDS look at your situation as Lamont suggests before something goes very wrong.

If you take the thermostat out put in some water on the stove and start heating the water. I don't know what temp the spyder opens, but monitor the temp of the water and see if it opens. If so then it may be the pump.

This sure seems like a good place to start... if the indicators point to the pump; take it to the dealer and let them do their magic.
If it's just the thermostat; it'd already be out and ready for replacement anyway...
goos luck! Let us know what it turns out to be!

hot again

just replaced thermostat my temp gage was always at 3 to 4 bars fan would not come on til 5 bars temp 85-90 ambient temp,2 weeks back temp went 5-6 bars ,with fan running SO ,changed thermostai, pressure cap and fluid.very easy to do dremel tool is a help to cut clamps ,get right size clamp screw type (3) do not try to remove rad. drain bolt from rad.you can drain fluid after removeing lower hose ,and twisting lower hose from bottom therm. housing ,do not try to remove lower rad. hose from rad.u.will need to remove 3 .tupper wear pannels rad cap from napa fits lots of small cars(all rts mine is 2010)

Thanks Jpat
That sounds like a perfect start for me, but i think while i'm at it i will replace the water pump also like others are saying, hope that fixes it:pray:

No sense in replacing the water pump unless it needs it. Replace (or test) the thermostat first.

Do u take ur bike to Honda of Tulsa?? Them guys were very good to me an i plan to use them if need b. an let me know how much they charge to put the BUDS on if u do that THX.

This water pump design is about as foolproof as you can get, aside from leakage! The water pump shaft is gear driven and locked to the gear with a pin thru the shaft. If the pin were missing, then it would never have worked. At the other end, the impeller screws directly onto the end of the shaft, presumably threaded correctly so that it stays tight and doesn't loosen itself during rotation. Unless the impeller blades have cracked and fallen apart, I think water pump failure is not likely. But you are far wiser than I -- do you have a mechanism for water pump failure in mind? Curious what your thinking is.

My 09 is overheating again!!:banghead:, This time it overheats every time i'm at a stand still like at stop lights or even at very low speeds, last time it was intermitent and the dealer couldn't find nothing wrong with it, i wanted to get some opinions before i take it back.
Thanks!!
Lupe.
If this was mine i would take my laser non contact thermometer you can get a ton of info without taking anything apart and starting with a cold motor start the bike and start shooting and reading shoot the thermostat housing and follow the hose you will be able to tell if and when the thermostat opens should be about 180 or so when warmed up follow the hoses is there a difference in and out on the radiator there should be a drop of heat load at the radiator check radiator top to bottom side to side can tell if there is blockage that way it should be even all over and so on , I use this tool all the time ,if im pulling large trailer loads shoot the tires, hubs, brakes if there is a big difference then one tire low one bearing going bad one brake sticking ,shoot the exhaust manifold on a cold start up motor can find a dead or missing cylinder shoot both sides on the water pump and tell if there is no flow, the info is endless and can save a lot of taking things apart just use your brain and isolate and eliminate
