There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I have an 08 so I'm looking for the same year responses. I still have the original battery installed and it is showing no signs of failing yet. I'm running no extra lights and only run a small inverter in my trunk once in awhile to power Bose speakers for my Ipod music when we are out. I only put it on the tender in the winter, never during riding season. I'm just wondering if I will be able to get one more year out of it. :dontknow:

Who is still running the original battery ? If your battery was replaced, post when and if you were running electronics and lights. We are the pioneers of this machine so we need to collect this data for our 09 and above riders and to see if my battery lasting this long is a fluke.

Keep ryding at least every other day or keep the battery tender on while parked. Check/clean the contacts.
Compared with the RT, RS's may have a longer battery life.

I have an 08 with the original battery, A few extra lights but no large current devices. Never used a battery tender on my Spyder or any other machine I have owned for that matter.
Park it in the fall and start it in the spring. Lots of starting power. It is parked in a heated garage all year. If it starts turning over slowly when the battery has a full charge that would be my warning sign. Not sure this helped any.

I also have an 08 RS with original battery and ride all year except when there is snow or salt on the road.Last year it probably sat for 2 months straight with no battery tender and had no trouble starting.I don't have any extra electrical acc. on it.I keep it in a non-heated garage.I think I can get another year out of it but time will tell.

Mine is still good, only run a couple of extras on it and try to ride it at least once a week year around.

My wife's 08 is still going strong. She runs an amplifier and occasionally some heat gear. I don't think it's gone more than a week without being ridden.

still runnin the factory battery on mine(pe#260), hasn't seen a tender yet, stays in an unheated garage year round.

Nancy has an '08 Premiere Edition GS, delivered in March '08. Still going strong on the original battery. It goes on the charger during the winter, but not during the riding season...unheated storage. It has always seen either an Accumate or Optimate motorcycle charger, continuously, during the winter.

This is good news. I have an 09, garage kept, and run it only once every two or three weeks sometimes in winter and I was debating whether to use a tender on it, now I am more confident I don't really have to.

Bought my 08 in July of that year. Original battery still going strong. I have the 12V outlet put in for the nav system which I hardly ever use. Ride it to work 4 miles one way most days (Texas is usually sunny and warm, except for the last two weeks). Garage kept in an uncooled (Texas, remember?) detached garage.

My buddy has a couple of assorted bikes and was surprised to see me get more than 3 years on an original battery. His bikes eat them up much faster.

BTW, I have read that the Spyder has a much less powerful charging system as compared to bikes like Gold Wings that can power a small house at idle for the whole day whereas the Spyder doesn't really produce much power until you get the revs up.

What with my steady 4 mile drives, I would have thought the battery wouldn't get enough of a charge but it does.

Got my 08 in January. The dealership installed a USED Battery off a Demo Spyder! I never had any trouble with it but I replaced it a few months ago because I was having starting problems. Turned out to be my Cheapo HID light kit and not the battery. I'm sure I'd still be going strong on it if I was still using it.

I replaced my battery in my 2008 SM5 spyder purchased in jan. 2009 early this season; it was still going strong at 12,000 miles. I just didn't want to take the chance and get stranded somewhere. Of course I did get stranded (in Sept.) when I pulled in the clutch lever to downshift while on a highway; the clutch lever was inoperable b/c the clutch basket came off the crankshaft.

Randy, I still have the original battery, if you want it. The next time we go for a ride I can bring it. Maybe I should keep it on a battery tender?

Bought my GS April of 08, I have 55w fog lights, and use a heated jacket in the winter.
Never been on a tender. It was still working when i traded the Spyder in, a few month's ago

08 battery

still going strong. some extra tail lites, way too complicated stereo in trunk.on bt jr since cold weather.

PE edition Spyder, origional battery going strong :D. Some extra draw, the BRP fog lamps are probably the biggest unless I am running a heated vest. Ridden year round, average of 4 days per week. On a "Battery Tender" smart charger whenever parked at home. I don't put it on the charger if we are traveling away from home.

+Mine's still going strong. Unheated garage, year-round riding. No extra electrical draw. No battery tender usage.

Ride on.
