• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Optimistic ambient temperature

I've noticed by ambient temperature reading on the digital display of my RS-S is usually 20 degrees optimistic, give-or-take. Anyone notice this?

Interesting. I wonder if there's a bias due to engine temp? Perhaps the sensor is near the Rotax? My right-side skid-plate was missing upon delivery (dealership to replace after a warranty claim in a few weeks) and the sensor might account for a more closed engine-bay normally. Thanks guys!

Incidentally, it actually runs a lot cooler than the RT-S, about 1/3rd temp. while operating vs. 1/2-way on the RT-S.

Temp readings..!!

the temp sensor is on the right side on the upper frunk under the forward panel. It is used to read the air temp going to the trottle body and does not read true to the outside temp. I use it just as a reference considering the heat off the asphalt on a hot day is about 165* here and when not moving reaches you before that sensor...

It would actually be better if we never saw that display. It's just not taking a reading that is useful for us; it's for the benefit of the bike only...

It's hot or it's cold... that is all I need to know!:joke:

The Zumo and the iPhone (before I ride) is my best reference. I use the one on the cluster to have an idea of the ambient + engine environment.

:agree: And if I'm not sweating or shivering so badly that I can't grip the bars ... it's time to ride! :2thumbs:

my 2014 runs within 2 to 3 degrees of actual, great improvement over my 2012 that ran 7 t0 0 degrees above actual

Hi mike,

Re: ambient temperature reading

Every car that I have owned with a so-called 'ambient temp gage' was nowhere in the neighborhood of accurate.

I no longer pay any attention to them.

Thanks for the responses. The right-side skid-plate is missing and the dealership is getting that replaced on warranty, so there's some issues there I suspect as the sensor is near there, creating different heat-zones.

My Corvette Grand Sport and Saturn Astra XR are pretty accurate on outside temps I find. Sad to see Saturn go. I sort of miss my Saturn Sky Redline but the GS is a bit of an improvement.

Mine seems to be more accurate on extended rides on the highway. Other than that, I generally find it to be about 8 degrees high, but that can also vary. Seems to get too much interference from heat generated by the Spyder itself.

The sensor came tied up in shipping and had to be cut loose and bolted in place upon set up many dealers didn't know and do this in the beginning mite check that

My 2012 RT is usually within 10 degrees. Never under. Always over. I wish there was a way to just remove the display...it is always wrong, and it can be disconcerting. When it says 105, I wonder if I going to get heat exhaustion.

You know, it's interesting you say that. When riding, I suspect the Temp. reading would be a bit more accurate, but being new to 3-wheels I'm usually quite focused on the road and only glance-down when stopped. That and my missing striker plate might have road-heat seeping up on the right. Incidentally, I had to ride in a downpour with the plate missing. Guess my header pipes will get all nasty.

Mine's worthless too.....................reads WAY high all the time. Maybe it's ambient temp in Kuwait? ;)

Wow, that's interesting. The temp reading on my display seemed quite accurate when I was riding the other evening. We are talking about the one where you press the C button on the right hand side and it alternates between digital display RPM's and temp right? It was around 8pm here in south FL and mine was showing around 80-82 degrees F. Seemed perfectly inline with what I expected it to be based on what it felt out at the time.

I actually even thought to myself...that's nice that it works because the thermometer in my S4 always reads about 3-4 degrees high lol!

My results vary a bit.

After sitting in the garage all night, the temp gauges are right on with the thermostat setting in the garage.

Once we are out and about, I find it takes a couple miles of airflow to re-set the temps to outside. Our two :ani29:'s are usually within a couple degrees of each other--and a lot of times--in agreement.

I also note that when outside temperatures are posted on signs--that we are within a couple degrees.

Leave the :spyder2: parked in the sun--and temps will be 10-15 degrees higher than "real." A few more miles in the air and the gauges settle down again.

It appears we get served up a "ballpark" reading--which is good enough for me.
