Opinions on tire pressures

I goes this is forum post morning for me. No doubt there are many opinions on my question, but what tire pressure seems to work best for the RT? I am curious what has worked best for both one and two up riding. I like softer ride, but at the same time hate the way the spider seems to lean in turns at the factory spec. pressures. I understand that maybe the front shock setting could be part of, or perhaps, the entire problem.

I ride one up and pretty much follow the owner's manual. Front pressure 17-18, rear about 28. With 12,000 miles, my original tires are wearing well and evenly. Per the manual, I never let the pressure vary by more than half-a-pound between left and right. I've had Elka shocks for about 6,000 miles.

Well, 28 in the rear wears the center but yours didn't, lucky! I walked around a lot of Spyders in the Adirondack Rally and most had center wear. I talked to a couple of guys who ran lower pressures and were getting even wear so I run 24 psi in the rear with no issues. Even after a long run on a hot day the increased tire pressure when hot did not go up more then 10% , a sign that I was not under inflated. That's my thoughts on the rear. Fronts your choice as I have been up and down and have found a happy medium at 20 psi.

I wasn't that lucky

Had to replace rear tire at 7000 due to the low pressure in rear tire. Bad mistake on my part (I know bad me:shocked:) was to depend on my dealer a little too much. With artificial knees, getting down and finding that stem to check pressure is a tad difficult, so I'd stop by the dealer every couple of weeks and they would check the pressure. Everything was always fine until I switched dealers and they told me the pressure was too low. Total center wear down to the bars, so now there's a new tire at 28 psi with almost 3000 miles on it and still looking good. Still trying to figure out checking that back tire pressure thing...knees are a bit cranky.

With stock tires I ran 18 psi front and 28 psi rear... It wore out the center section pretty darn quick (7000 miles) :gaah:
I put a Falken ZE912 out back and am trying 25 psi in it right now...
(I tried 20 up front and it started feeling a bit too "bouncy"... 18 felt much better!)

If you don't like the body roll, you are going to have to be thinking more about your shocks than your tire pressures. The correct preload setting helps tremendously in the handling department. Keep in mind that ride and handling are to some extent mutually exclusive. A Cadillac never will corner like a Corvette, and the Vette will never ride like the Caddy. You are looking for a compromise that fits your needs best. That goes for suspension settings as well as tire pressures. Why don't you just experiment a little, and find what seems to work best for you. All the other opinions in the world won't matter if they don't perform the way you want. :)

After many tweaks on my 2011 RT-S SE5 I found that 18/28 works perfectly for me. Tightened the shocks and softened the suspension and I was told last weekend by the "Tail Gunner" in our MC that I 'was riding the S*it of of that bike".......huge compliment from him. Corners like a dream now and tires are showing no problems.

I run 18 front and 28 rear and elka shocks front and rear without any problems. I changed the rear tire at 13,000 with even tread and about 1000 miles more if I wanted to push it. Front tires at 50% wear so I will push them a little longer before I change them and I run hard in the hills and along the coast.:doorag:

tire pressure...

I've been running 22 psi in the fronts @ shock setting 4 for over 18,000 miles, and they still look like new. I expect to get at least 30k out of them. The rear, that's a whole different animal. I ran 28 psi in the original and wore it out at 11k miles. Replaced it with the Kuhmo and have been running it at 32 psi, with little signs of wear.

Tire Pressure

Tire pressure has been 18 front and 30 rear with suspension set at hard. Rear tire will need to replaced in about 1000 miles. When this occurs will have approximately 7000 miles on the odometer. With new rear tire will probably reduce air pressure to 26 psi. Have Elka shocks and they are set at 25.

I started out with Manaul Settings. I noticed the front started to cup. I increased the air pressure 28#'s, since it is a 30# inflation, and evened out the tire wear. The rear was set @ 28#'s and has worn out the center. I've since reduced to 22#'s and seems to be wearing evenly since not much tread in the center. we just turned 18K on the tires. I will be looking real soon for a different type of rear tire to replace it with. Hopefully I can find a hard compound type tire. I adjust the ride comfort with the softness of the rear shock..25#'s for 1 up & 50#'s for 2 up..
