• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

opinion on 1" riser

I'm looking for opinions on the 1" riser block from BRP. Does it really make enough of a difference to justify the added expense of having it installed?

We like it, but have never ridden with anything else, even stock, so there is nothing to compare it to for us. There are a few good aftermarket options available, too. They have more rise, and some are also adjustable. I suggest you research those, and figure what your needs are, before you go BRP.

I was very happy with the 1" but since i wanted to use the Kewlmetal Console I ended up going with the 5" bars from them as well and it made it even better.

Ask your dealer to install it for free during the spyder prep, mine did. I figured that 50 bucks for the 1” riser was worth testing out and if I wanted more there is a 3” riser that can be added later. Also, I like the stock look of the handlebars. I’m glad I went the route I did and find my riding position is still very comfortable after 1000 miles of riding. I have not cruised more than three hours straight, but the only thing worn out after that was my rump. If you can get free installation I would say go for it.

riser

I got the 1" riser and it works well for me...I don't see a need to add more but it's a personal choice...if you're going to be riding for days on end, you might want to be more upright...

I like the 1" riser as it allows me to be upright more as well have the ability to lean forward to lean into turns...(meaning it doesn't lock you into being straight up).

I have found that although 'they' say you don't have to lean into turns, it makes a huge difference if you do...I feel much more control when I lean and it makes for better acceleration coming out of the turns...

One thing though, if you weigh over 150 lbs., make sure you put the front suspension on notch 4 (as per your owner's manual)...it's easy to do and it makes a tremendous difference...before I did this, taking turns felt wobbly, now I lean and I'm much more in control...makes for much more confident riding...

One more thought for you...get the Kewlmetal mirror extensions...they're awesome and you can actually see behind you!

I have the 1" riser also and find my riding position very comfortable. However my wife need more rise and pull back so I am evaluating other options that are available.

+1 for the 1" Riser Block

I have about 1,350 miles on my Spyder now (15 days). I'm 6'4", 195lbs. For me, it's just great! With advise from Tim (zzneonzz), and others here, I had the shock settings set as follows when I took delivery: Front: 4 - Rear: 6. Perfect! :) It's also true that about 1,000 of the miles so far, my wife has been passenger. (she loves the Spyder! :))

I have done some interstate riding, lots of back country roads, and some really nice twistys through Shelby Forest.

One of the things that comes to mind is the fact that before I got my Spyder, I had not ridden a motorcycle in 30 years (with the exception of a ride around a school parking lot, the Spyder Demo, my endorsement ride, and test riding the dealer demo. And, the first weekend of ownership, we rode about 350 miles. On Monday morning, I was able to get out of bed, with no back pain, or any other ailments!

Now; when I rode at the Spyder Demo, and the others (with the exception of Tim's), they did not have the 1" Riser Block. That little 1" does make a difference.

1" riser

We had the 1" riser installed when we took delivery of our :spyder:. I'm 6' 4'' and Joan (Spyderrider810) is 5" 2" so we needed something that would be somewhat more comfortable for each of our riding styles. While the 1" worked out well, we still needed more adjustment. For us we have decded to go to the Kewlmetal bars. These bars will afford us the most versitility for our riding styles and postion as far as height and pull back is concerned. As many owners have stated, there are numerous products out there, so investigate what will work best for you.

Rode it stock and then added the 1" riser - I like it much better w/ the riser - takes some of the pressure off my wrists!

Thank you for the input. I think I will go with the 1" riser for now and if I find that more is needed I can always consider the aftermarket options. I rode the demo's several times but none had the riser on it so I'll have some experience to compare it to.

I have the 1' BRP riser on mine now. It does make a difference.
I sit back a bit more and more up right or in my comfortable slouch position Like I've become used to on my other bikes.
If I were to have more extension I think that I would have to change my leg position. Too bent for comfort if I were to sit back any more.

Drove mine stock for about 1500 mi. Then I added the 1" riser and am happy with it at a little over 6000. Ryde Safe and Enjoy:thumbup:

For those who have the 1" riser and have not installed mirror extensions, how does the riser affect the mirrors? Does it make it better, worse, or no different?

I can't say if they changed my mirror view any. I only rode without the 1" riser on a few demo rides in Aug. / Sept. of 2007. My Spyder came with the 1" riser installed by the dealer and thats what I ride with since March of 2008. I couldn't see anything behind me on the demo rides and I can't see anything behind me now (unless I move my body and head). I can't tell if there is any difference one way or the other. :dontknow:
