Hey probably just hating because your bike costs more than his car and bike put together. Haters will always be out there but for the most part I get nothing but posotive looks and always get a thumbs up from all bikers.

I haven't gotten to ryde that much yet this year (due to a combo weather and work), but I was filling up the Spyder at a gas station a little over a week ago when I heard someone yell 'hey'. I turned to see a grizzled, scraggy-looking old HD guy briskly walking up to me (jeans, black HD shirt, leather jacket...). I instantly felt defensive and started preparing some snarky comebacks in my mind. When he got up to me he asked: how do you like that? How's it handle? How fast is it? etc... He seemed really excited about the Y, then thanked me and left.

I think this thread made me a tad too self-conscious. Need to just relax and ryde...

I had an interesting experience. I was invited to ride to a major Harley hang out in Dallas. I thought okay here comes the comments. All these hard Harley types, dressed in all the colors of motorcycle groups. No sooner did i get there with my invites and I was attacked with curiosity and questions. I thought In Hawaii I understand, so few have been around spyders, but Dallas. I had one sarcastic comment by a colorful personality. He was told to shut up by more colorful personalities. Some were talking extreme make over, designing it to look like dragons, fighter planes and ten other make overs. One guy who asked if he could ride it? Reluctantly I said okay. He handed me his keys to his unreal chopper and said if he so much as scratches the spyder his bikes mine.

I felt like I was top dog for a while.

I think people who really enjoy bikes, do not make comments, Its the insecure 1% who make comments. I ride two wheels and three wheels and four wheels.

Some of the nicest people I have met, with the most sincere questions, have been Harley riders. Many of them are getting up in years and are seriously thinking about looking for an alternative. I had one guy follow me for 15 miles through town once, it started to freak me out a little so I pulled over in a gas station to see what the deal was. He pulled along side me and started asking questions. Never got out of his car, but we talked for a good 30 minutes or so.

That is one of the cool things about the Spyder, it brings a bunch of people together who may not ever meet otherwise. :thumbup:

People are going to hate because they are jealous. They wouldn't mind having one too. If they could afford one. But since they can't, they have to say negative comments about it. I'm blessed to even have one. :2thumbs: I haven't had any instances of hatred except for one time when I saw a lady passenger on a HD nodding her head 'NO' when she saw me on my spyder. Similar to what Raptor told me. There's not 1 day I don't get a :thumbup: from random people who think the spyder is cool.

This is one of the smaller groups gathering around the Spyder on bike night. I spent more time answering questions than anything else. It was the only Spyder there and I had the 622 trailer attached. Earlier that day it took me a hour just to get into Lowes due to the same kind of gathering and questions. There were the usual questions but there are also the negative comments from some riders of other machines.

This past weekend (In between the rainstorms! :gaah, I was out for a ryde and stopped to fiddle with the stereo. (Had too much bass response dialed in...) Four Harleys stopped and one rider started walking over to me. "Here we go..." says me to myself...:shocked:
Out pops a big smile and a hand and a "Do you mind if I ask you some questions about the Spyder?"
A half hour later I think that I might have sold two of them; one to him and one to his son. They invited me to a Harley dealer's open house the following day also. :thumbup:

HD/Spyder Dealerships

Can't be a problem as I have seen more than one HD dealer that is also a Spyder dealer. HD/Spyder on same showroom floor. I have never had any rude comments made about my Spyder by HD riders..matter of fact when I was needing a little mechanical fix..2 HD riders "did the honors". Hmmmm again my "no expectations" motto for living my life WORKS...I don't expect negative reactions from people and I don't expect positive reactions from people. I do expect a positive outlook toward "whatever life brings my way" from me and toward others. Yep, yep that is what I am responsible for. ME and that is a full time job...trust me!!:roflblack::yikes:

I rode my new RS for the first time this past weekend, did a hundred miles around town and burbs. Saw plenty of two-wheel riders around town. In my wholly unscientific survey, 80% of Harley riders gave me the little side wave as we passed each other by, and maybe 20% of the metric riders did.

I can't explain the difference. My guess is that if you're a metric / sportbiker, you might look at the Spyder as a failed imitation of a sportbike, but if you're an HD rider, you look at it and think, "Hey, that looks comfortable *AND* safe."

Anyway, it was nice to be part of a friendly cult again

I can't explain the difference. My guess is that if you're a metric / sportbiker, you might look at the Spyder as a failed imitation of a sportbike, but if you're an HD rider, you look at it and think, "Hey, that looks comfortable *AND* safe."

I get the sense metric/sportbikers are less inclined to do the wave in general. I tend to get the coldest reception from young guys on sportbikes. At gas stations they usually won't even make eye-contact.

I took my spyder out today for the first spring ride ( a cool 49 degrees). This was also the first ride since I had the VSS recall, new HMF pipe and a few mods to make her look pretty. So obviously on the first ride of the season, I was so happy and grinning from ear to ear. I'm at the gas station fueling up, and this longhaired bearded guy pulls up to the light on the corner of the gas station in a beatup old chevy car. He looked liked he rides one of those motorcycles that cost a fortune, leak oil and has not taken a shower in two weeks. Well anyway, I'm looking in that direction and he rolls his window down and screams, "Only girls ride three wheels" and drives off. My bubble I was in just bursted and my jaw just dropped. I have never received any type of negative feedback out riding. NEVER !!! The only thing I could think of, was to extend one of my fingers upright. It almost took some of the fun out of the rest of my ride because I kept thinking about it. Why would some person try to ruin my first spring ride ??? :gaah:WWYD ??? (what would you do)

You should have yelled back "You are right, your girl was riding me on it lastnight. She said that it was the best shes ever had."

The last time I took Clyde to the dealership for service, a couple of guys closely watched me pull into the service department. One commented to the other that there's NOTHING sexier than a woman riding a machine like that! Grunts of agreement and lots of heads nodding all around the shop. Being short and wide and old, it really made my day! No offense taken here, dude.

I get a kick out of how many BMW riders wont wave back, I am sure that they dont think they are better than us or stuck on their selfs probalbly just afraid to take a hand off the bar to wave back. I still wave just to see how many wont wave back. It is really to bad because their BMW bikes are almost as good and classy as our sypders.
