• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

One Hot ride

Our Star group rode 278 miles today, from Temecula to the Salton Sea area to the southern entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, through the park,
the city of Joshua tree, to the 111 to the 10 west to Banning and then south down the 79 to Temecula, with a few short side rides here and there.
Was planned long before we knew how hot it was going to be, 90 + degrees, a long 9 hour day. Bike rode fine, but I did notice a lot of heat on my right leg, which I thought wouldn't happen with the new F3-S.
Haven't ridden any other spyder for comparison but it was hotter then my HD is stop & go traffic. Still lots of vibration between 68 and 73 mph.
I'll have to mention it to the dealer next time I'm there.
Still happy I got the spyder though, the ride was very enjoyable.
Hope everyone get better weather soon, not being able to enjoy your spyder is just plain WRONG

was out that way and can tell you it is always hot out that way...glad you got to test the F3 in the heat. The history of the salton sea facinates me but my wife can't stand the heat so only run by one side. Solo ryde for the next time. :thumbup:

wind protection

What kind of windshield are you using and how did it perform on this ride.
 
Our SRA group plus two Star members who are visiting rode to St. George, UT yesterday. It was beautiful going in the morning but was plenty hot by the time we got home. I'm not ready for the 90s, I want some more of the 70s and 80s please!
 
Did a Demo ride in Peoria Az last Sunday around 92. The fans kicked on every time we stopped and yes there's heat if you put your feet down. Just kept my feet on pegs no problem.
 
Can't Relate Yet

It got up to 38 degrees today and we will see 48 tomorrow. We're supposed to see 60 degrees next Thursday but it's supposed to be rainy. Generally we don't see 90 degrees here until about mid June. A few 100 degree days occur in July and early August. The humidity is what makes it uncomfortable here in the Summer months but riding helps a lot.
 
Yesterday . . .

. . . . it was 32 (F) when I got up. By the time we started our 200 mile Project Road Warriors ride, it was around 55. The temperature got up to the high 80s - the F3 was saying 95 - by the last 75 miles. The altitude ranged from 5k to 7k, clear skies.

The F3 had half of it's Heat Bars lit, not many stops, but I didn't notice the fan ever coming on or any heat on my legs.

BTW, I got 39 mpg on the ride. Not sure how that happened. It was a fairly big group, so not much riding over 70, but no vibration.

What are the Heat Bars and where are they located on the F3. My right leg was so hot I checked to see It wasn't burning my leg. No visible marks.

I use the Blue Ridge by BRP, work good except in high wind areas, lots of wind here at times, I may get a lip for it later....

. . . . the engine temperature bars on the main display/gauge. It is on the opposite side from the gas gauge - as the engine warms up, the bars fill in from the bottom, going up. Normal engine operation is half way - if it were the gas gauge, you would say it is half full. Depending on the ambient temperature and type of driving, it will vary, but it usually runs at half after the engine warms up.

Yes, I am glad I don't have the vibrations you describe. I have to admit that I am scratching my head over that and your hot leg. It doesn't match my experience at all. My GS did like to give me a hot foot, until I sealed a gap in the engine's cowling, but my F3 feels fine heat-wise. Nothing at all remarkable. Maybe when it gets to triple digits this Summer in stop-and-go traffic something might show up. :dontknow:

I noticed the warm right leg the first day I rode the F3 home - it was in the low 80's that day. I've noticed it several other times since, but not necessarily every ride. I think the wind direction may be a factor in how the heat rolls out of the engine area. I haven't noticed it enough in the first 1,500 miles to determine a pattern. I started off with the pegs in the stock position and now have them in the forward-most position. I don't think there's much difference in the two locations relative to the heat on the right foot & leg, when I happen to notice it. That said, so far I've only experienced a warm leg - nothing really uncomfortable.

I'm a little used to it, though. On my previous bike, it was somewhat notorious for a hot left foot. The standard line for that one was to move your foot to the outside of the peg. I'm looking forward to getting the floorboards to see if changing the foot position has much of an impact on the F3.
