• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Oil

I was told it was gonna cost me $300 for the first service :yikes:...I can do it myself if I buy the filters and the T6...I'm just waiting to hear someone tell me that my warranty will be void if the dealership doesn't perform the oil services on the machine....

Just keep in mind that the first Service [600mile] Isn't Just an oil change.
Just saying'.

What's wrong with the BRP oil

BRP has put over 16 years of research and development into the Spyder and over 70 years into seadoos and skidoos. What is so wrong with the BRP oil that people are willing to risk voiding their warranties and having a slipping clutch?

I think that BRP is most knowledgable out of all of us and they know what type of oil we need in our vehicles. If they thought the Spyder needed a different type of oil, they would have made it.

Not everything needs to be changed.

Sounds like some people would use vegetable oil just to say that they are different.

There is nothing wrong with using their oil (to each their own). I just find that if an oil is going to be marketed, it should show what viscosity and rating it has, regardless if it was Yamaha brand or BRP. Not to mention the jacked up price!!! :yikes:

So no Rotella T6 huh? Dammit, I use that on all my bikes. Now I'm going to have to find something else. Maybe I should use Harley oil. *ducks and runs* ;)

Well, this IS interesting!! If you check the fine print on the Rotella label and the fine print on the BRP oil label, you'll see that they're made by the same company! When you check, you'll see "Distributed by SOPUS, Houston, TX..." SOPUS is an acronym for "Shell Oil Products U.S.":lecturef_smilie: Pennzoil and Quaker State are also made by...you got it...Shell. Shell is taking the Pennzoil and Quaker State heavy duty synthetic grades off the market, because they are the same as the Rotella T6.

Shell makes a variety of oils...including a full synthetic motorcycle oil bearing the JASO MA2 label, that is sold in Europe. They also formulate oils for private labels, to the private label specs. One cannot assume that the BRP oil is the same oil as Rotella T6, just because it has a Shell label. They make many oils. The blended BRP oil most certainly is not the same. Use T6 at your own risk, it has caused problems on other Spyders.

Rotella T6 problems

Can you advise what problems? So far I have only seen good reports on this and other sites. Is there a thread I am missing?

I use Amsoil in the GS and Castrol RS 4T in the new RT which is probably the same as the BRP synthetic BUT they fail to disclose anything about the oil???
Both Amsoil and Castrol RS 4T are Jaso MA2 and You Really should Not use anything BUT Jaso MA2!!nojoke

I tried Rotella T6 and some others have done so as well. The clutch starts slipping. I got about 1000 kms (600 miles) and had change the oil and filters. So don't waste your money and time use the correct oil.
