OIL, not the same questions, I swear !

I have a 1995 Four Winns boat with a Ford 5.0 V-8. It stays in the garage when I'm not on the water and its in very good condition. The manual for oil changes says "Use only SAE 30, single viscosity oil. Do not use multi-viscosity oil such as 10W-30, or 10W-40". OK, I get it. However, this manual is 18 years old and I can't find SAE 30 any more. I see that Amsoil has 0W-30. Can I assume that 0W-30 is the same thing as SAE 30 ?

but it would seem that 0W-30 is just less than 5W-30 or 10W-30 etc. Have you tried to get the oil you need online..?? Rural King carries it and I'm sure there are others...:thumbup:

There is straight 30 weight in many places. Shell Rotella comes that way at AutoZone and Advance. Most Wal-Marts will have straight 30 in 2.5 gallon jugs, especially those in rural areas. 0w30 is a multigrade oil also, just like the 5 and 10w flavors, but has better cold flow properties. I agree that 30 isn't as prominent as it used to be, but it's out there. Rural King, and Farm and Home are 2 other options.

Don't go with a 0W-anything unless it is specifically recommended and your ambient temperature is within the range stated in the manufacturer's recommendation. I would worry about the warning enough that I would do a search to see what others are running, or I would seek out some straight 30 weight. It does still exist. Barring that I would probably try a 20W-40 or a 10W-30 and keep my fingers crossed.
