Oil light?

Today, after a short ryde, I stopped for gas. When I left, the oil light came on and it was running extremely rough and wouldn't accelerate. Nothing on the panel was lit except the oil light.

I pulled over and shut it down. After a few minutes, I started it up. No oil light and it ran normally for the rest of my way home.

Any ideas of what might of happened or what I should look for?

I've read of just a couple of oil pressure sensors going bad. You gotta love all of the sensors, right?

I experienced the same symptoms ....oil pressure sensor had to be changed :gaah:

As I post before the basket of parts being thrown at my spyder that is one of them

That oil sensor was in the basket of parts the dealer has thrown at my spyder because it did not test in the parameters. I talk to the dealer the other day, and they told me they had a few more things to run through to insure my spyder was safe for me.

If it was just a bad oil pressure sensor - I don't see why the bike would have been running poorly. Could be a more serious problem - but hopefully just the sensor. Did you check the oil level before you restarted it?

Other bad sensors (GPS) have made the Spyder run poorly by creating noise that adversely affected the ECM via the CANBus. It would also be possible for a bad OPS to quickly and intermittently put the Spyder into limp mode. A fast switching in and out of a fault condition might not show up on the display, and would make for really ragged running. Not saying either is the case, but it is possible. Only a trip to the dealer and a session on BUDDS will tell the tale.

This happened to mine. When the system gets a "no oil pressure" message from the OPS it tells the nanny to shut down one of the cylinders (no spark).

You can do a short term fix by disconnecting the wire from the OPS. The "normal" reading from the sensor is an open circuit, so this will make it think all is well. Worked on mine untill I was able to get the part installed.

I just started to have the same problem:cus:!
I just turn off:spyder:and restart right away. Looks like another trip to the dealer:gaah:

That's right, cause I replaced it. How's it been since then. Any other problems since you left Florida?

Spyder Problems

Has anyone in all their years of motorcycling ever had a bike that required all the adjustments etc that our Spyders have? What ever happened to the "fire it up and ride" concept. My Spyder runs just great, but I shudder at all the problems some of you are having. You all have far more patience than I.

Aw c'mon Jack, in all those years of riding you had to own a Brit bike or a panhead at least once. First came the question of "If it fires up, I'll ride." Then came the endless tinkering and picking up fallen parts that came with actually getting to your destination. Even a naughty Spyder is a dream by comparison. :roflblack:
