There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Oil Leaks-anyone else/

You have been extremely patient. I am sorry to hear that you are still having trouble with your steering after all of this as well. The only suggestion I can make is to stay in contact with your dealer and Carlo and see if they can come up with a resolution that will serve you well.

Best of luck!

I have had my Spyder for a couple of years and have put about 35k on it.

I also bought a new house about the same time. As soon as I put the new Spyder in its new garage I noticed it was leaking oil.

So I did the Lamonster catch can thing and after a few mistakes, got it working to the point where I could eliminate the oil in the air box as a cause.

So I gave up and took it to the dealer to fix. They had it for about two months in which time they completely disassembled the engine and put it back together with new gaskets all the way around. They also changed the output shaft and pulley which has nothing to do with this but was a good thing to have fixed.

So now I have it back and it is pretty much the same as when I took it in. It is leaking oil from no one particular location. And I am not unusally picky about this but it is a lot of oil. I look under there and it is like a rain forest of oil. I had a '74 GMC pickup truck that leaked about the same amount but that was to be expected of that vintage. The Spyder had pretty much ruined my garage floor previously and now I just keep waste cardboard under it rather than cleaning it up every day.

I had heard a lot of good things about Rotax engines prior to this. But after this incident, and going through two of them in my jet ski this summer, I am thinking that the reputation is a bit overstated.

So the question I have is: Am I the only one that is having this kind of experience? Are my expectations higher than what they should be for this type of vehicle?
I find it odd that the subject has not come up with the exception of the oil in the air box thing.

Bottomline is that I am going to keep adding oil to it and keep riding it. I would have expected better from an Austrian engine builder. But then this thing was relatively cheap and has low production volume so maybe I am expecting too much.

If its leaking from the drainplug in the oil tank, I found that you need the throw away the copper bushing and get a rubber impregnated steel washer from Autozone. ZERO leaks after that on mine.

Origianlly it was leaking from every where with the possible exception of the drain plug. I will use your idea on the next oil change.

I did take a look at it this morning and it is not leaking oil so I am a happy camper.

If it leaks again you could always just slap a HD sticker on it and you'd be all set......:roflblack:

I know nothing about Harleys except that the engines look like works of art. But I doubt that they could leak more oil than my Spyder was doing. It seems okay now though.

Yeah--- I know--- I like the matte black finish ones... not a big chrome fan. Doubt they really leak like they used to--- but it's one of those things they just can't seem to shake from their history.

My Spyder still drips a bit --- I'll have to check the water pump area. Figure I'll let the dealer take a peek at it in the spring before riding season.

BRP... We know you are aware of this defective unit.

Why don't you replace "Recluse's" spyder. He has spent enough time trying to get this one fixed, time is money... his money on this defective unit. Reasonable men would recognize this unit is defective and would replace it to prevent more "bad press".

"Bad press" is not good for business! I personally want you to succeed.

I appreciate the sentiment but I am good for now. My scooter does not leak oil and I have oil pressure. I am not sure what damage was done to the engine when it was lacking oil pressure.

Now they could add 5 months onto my warranty and give me back my $50 co pay. That would be fair.
