• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Oil in Spyder from BRP

I need to add a little oil to my RT. Can I just buy an oil (what type) from my local auto parts store or do I have to make a trip to my local dealer (1 1/2 hr drive away).:banghead:

Any Motorcycle Specific Oil will work. 5W40 or 10W 40. It should say JASO MA, or MA2 on the label.

When you are ready to change I can help you get Amsoil wholesale.

:lecturef_smilie: Sorry, but the straight dino motorcycle oils do not meet the BRP oil spec, and there are other considerations. You can't just use any old motorcycle oil. It has to be 5W-40 or 10W-40 full synthetic or a synthetic blend, and should not be labelled API-SM.

What do the New Spyders come with from the Factory? Is it Blend or Break-In Oil?:dontknow:

Theres is no break in oil , That went out with Zoot Suits;
The first Splders came with full synthetic, Then later they switched to a blend from the Factory.

Should be able to find it at any major auto parts store. O'Reillys, AutoZone and advanced auto all carried it near me and even out in the sticks about 3 hours north of Indy they had it. Usually it's in a different shot than the automotive stuff but they'd know where to point you. Lucas oil makes a blend that's ma2 and castrol makes a full synthetic that's ma2 rated.

Hi to all, I'm new to the forum and live in the UK. I have sat at my PC for a week now, (sad, I know) viewing nearly all posts in an attempt to understand my 2012 RS.
I don't know about the USA, but here in the UK, we use Shell Ultra 10W40 fully Synthetic.
It's API SM & JASO MA2 and It's the Shell recommended oil for Can-Am Spyders.
Oils have changed since BRP wrote the manual, the latest API SM oils for motorcycles now contain friction modifiers for wet clutch machines and do not cause slip.

By the way I envy your gas prices, here in the UK it works out to $9.53 a gallon for unleaded

I am getting ready for my wife’s new RT-S SE-5 break-in oil change and would like to start her on Amsoil. Give me what info you can on what I need and where to get it. I use it in my car but I know that there is a special MC product.
Thnx

Bad Dog6 is the official spyderlovers sponsor I do believe. He posted near the beginning of the thread if you want to contact him.

I've found Canola works great.
I'm on my seventh engine but it sure does remind me of French Fries just before the clatter.....

I'm just now reading this thread, and Roger, I do have to say that before I die, I have to meet you. Thank you so much for putting a smile on my face. Live life to the fullest, and above all be able to laugh at yourself.

Oh Sparks,
