There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Has any one had an oil drain plug that you could not get loose? I cannot break my drain plug what do I do it is ready to strip the 6mm hole.

Drain Plugs

I'm not sure what you can do to loosen it but once you do I would suggest replacing both plugs with gold plugs that use a ratchet wrench to loosen. goldplug.com

Once you do get it out replace it with a Fumoto valve.

Try this..!!

Has always worked for me..heated oil glazes like a varnish. If you hammer the drain plug (best with a socket allen ) it cracks the seal made by the glaze. Then you should be able to break it loose. Use a long handle allen (again better with a socket allen.)...

What Gene said. I do the same. Put the Allen socket in. Hit with a hammer to seat and break the glaze. Use a breaker bar, one quick snap. Make certain the drain plug is clean all the way in the Allen recess; seating the Allen socket is key. Once out, replace, and make sure it does not get wottled out. Good luck! Joe

FITMENT CLEARANCE

Sorry but I would not put that on my Spyder. It would hang down below the pan and if you hit something that could bs a disaster.

Bob

Maybe not on the " V " twin......but on the 1330 engine the plugs are recessed quite aways up inside the frame .......Mike

ARE YOU SURE

Has any one had an oil drain plug that you could not get loose? I cannot break my drain plug what do I do it is ready to strip the 6mm hole.

This may sound stupid but are you sure you are turning it in the right direction ????......This has happened to me on occasion when turning bolts etc. that are upside down......To make absolutely sure I always set the wrench to loosen before I actually try it .........just a thought......Mike

Goldplug: what size you I have to purchase? Can-Am does not show up as a search option.
It's in the drop down menus. Be sure to click on the motorcycle button first. You may have to select a year, then change it, then go back to first selection before the Make drop down shows up. It's kind of a flakey drop down system.

I wish I could help you with advice to get them out. Don't use an allen wrench. Use an allen head on a socket. May you can break it out with an impact driver.
The allen head oil plugs have been problematic since my first Spyder in 2010.
I hope you can get then out.
Once removed, you might want to replace them with hex head oil plugs.

I have these plugs installed.

Not only are they hex head, but they also have a magnet at the tip to attract shavings.

As always, my free advice comes with a money back guarantee

I have a '14 RTL with a little over 200 miles on it so I haven't had the need to change anything yet but doesn't the Spyder have a magnetic plug for the transmission? Therefore I would only need a plug for the oil. I ask because drainplugmagnets.com sells them as a kit.

The original oil plugs are pretty soft metal & will easily strip on the hex key hole if you don't have the hex key fully seated before you apply torque. Like already suggested above, I recommend you replace it with an after market plug. I'm thinking I got the Goldplug, but am not certain after so many years. It has a significant magnetic field built into it, which always causes a bit of a mess when you remove it. It will hang in the drain hole instead of dropping as you would expect. You have to pull it away to break the magnetic force. Of course, the oil is draining at this point, so it gets a little messy...

http://goldplug.com/#plugfinder will help you locate the correct plugs (there are two).

If you happen to have stripped it out you do have options. I have stripped and broken off many bolts. None are fun to get out and some have required disassembly to not damage other connected parts.

If there still a resemblance of an Allen head but all sizes are loose you can sometimes find one that is tight in a set of standard Allen sockets or you can take a socket Allen that is a bit larger and carefully grind a little at a time off of the tool until it feels like it is going to fit with a little help from a hammer. Keep the Allen head from getting hot by grinding a little and cooling in water. Then tap that in and give it a try.

Completely round hole. Well there are options but if you are not mechanically inclined I would bring to dealership and pay the piper and chalk it up as a learning lesson.

I did the exact same thing and stripped it out. I managed to get things out of the way and used vice grip to get it out. It wasn't fun but it did work. I ordered a couple extra sets of plugs and screws for the filters.

A friend of mine had the same problem he use a sharp screwdriver put it along the edge and lightly tapped it with a hammer and a loosened it up. The vice grip method is a little harder but safer I think.

Hope it works for you.

Just bought them

Just bought the hexhead/magnetic drain plugs. Only have 700+ miles on the RT-S but these are good things.
