• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Oil Drain Plug Issue ... Solved!

I was in Daytona last week and I met a guy and his wife at the hotel. He was selling aftermarket oil drain plugs. I thought, cool! I have had issues with the stupid alan drain plug already and had to buy one at NAPA (with no magnet)after I had to use a punch and hammer to get the OEM one out.

Anyway, he showed me one and it has a very powerful, I mean really powerful!, magnet and he has sizes for the Spyder.
(12x1.5 and 14x1.5) I bought a set and am very happy with them.

If you would like to eliminate the alan head drain plugs and want the best.

This is it. The Spyder is not listed on the site but he has the plugs for it.
You will just have to give him a call.
Richard is the owner.

Standard disclaimer: I am not associated with Dimple or Richard (except we are now friends) I just used and like the product.

I got two sets from him and if I like them as much as I think I will I'll be setting up as a dealer. :doorag:

Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like allen heads. Very happy to see there are alternatives. Have some questions though...

Looks like the Dimple Drain Plug has a countersunk o-ring. Very neat concept but would you have to use their 'special' o-ring for every oil change?

Looks like the Gold Plug uses washers but no o-ring?

Trying to learn here. And yes, I'm one of those that changes out the o-rings every time.

This is what they have posted on the site.

  1. Won't back out.
  2. Effective in vibration, temperature variation and pressure spike situations.
  3. No chemical sealant required.
  4. Reseals repeatedly without loss of effectiveness.
  5. Does not need replacement gaskets.

So the drain plug magnets are only 3 times the price instead of 6. I'll be interested in your test.
I did my test and the magnet in the cheaper plug pulls just as hard as the one in the more expensive plug near as I can tell.

Lamonster, you sent me a message which I am unable to open!
would you send me an e-mail to [email protected] or call me at 704-320-0700 please?

I see that my post describing the advantages of high temperature magnets was removed? I thought it would be helpful to understand some basic physics of Neodymium magnets to the readers.

:2thumbs:

Thanks for the information on these! I will be ordering some replacements for the next oil changes as well.

crushwashers

I have 12,000 miles on my spyder and up to now I've had the dealer do the oil changes. I'm thinking about doing my own oil changes. If I use these new magnetic oil plugs with their washers, do I still need the motor and tank crushwashers? This question may sound stupid to some; but, since I haven't ever changed the spyder oil, I thought I would check.
