• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Oil Cooler Leak

I went for a ride yesterday, stopped for gas and noticed some oil drops under the Spyder. Initially, I thought it was from a previous vehicle, but I decided to check, just in case and found that a stone (?) had dented the oil cooler screen and penetrated the cooler, resulting in a slow leak. Luckily, I had only lost less than a quart of oil, but the leak was too large to take a chance on riding home, so I called in a tow truck. This morning I took the cooler out and will be taking it to a local radiator shop for repair.

I wanted to post as this could be a problem for others, especially with the cooler as exposed as it is, and the apparent weakness of the protective screen. I'm thinking of putting another screen on top of the existing and adding spacers between the two to allow for a buffer zone. I haven't checked my radiator, but this could also apply there.

That sucks. A tighter mesh screen is a good Idea. Be sure to post some picks, when you get it back together.

Good luck with the repair.

I'd call that a material defect and have BRP replace it under warrenty. No big deal if its dented, but to spring a leak, not acceptable IMO.

That looks like a rock dent, that punctured the oil cooler tube. How would you blame that on a material defect? The reason I ask, is that I do mechanical inspections for extended warranty companies, and there are none I work for that would cover that failure. It would be considered physical damage, not a material defect.

material defect I AGREE.

2 years ago I rear ended a van with my Ram 1500. I got my bumper replaced because the plastic bumper cover wasnt made to withstand a 30 mph impact. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

As Larry the cable guy would say...

"Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are"

Warranty coverage for a rock punching a hole in it, under "material defect."

Good one.

I got the cooler fixed, it was a small puncture hole and was silver soldered for $40. I ran it for a couple of miles with no apparent problems and will take it for a longer ride tomorrow (with a quart of oil in my Givi bag, just in case)

I wouldn't consider this a defect and appreciate the thought, but I've not heard of a similar occurrence with another Spyder, so it seems to be a one in a million chance.
