Oil in Air Box/Oil Catch Can
I fired the Spyder up and got the cob webs out about a week ago and noticed I had a lot of oil in the air box. I made a catch can using the materials below. It ain't pretty but so far it's working great. just wanted to share how I did it. Got the idea off of a motorcycle forum.
List of materials:
-Weather proof outlet box
-Galvanized cover
-2-1/2 inch barbed couplers
-1 threaded plug for bottom of box
-Jb weld
- 3 feet of oil resistant tubing
-1 stainless steel scrubber.
-4 hose clamps
Procedure:
-Drill 2 holes. 1 in each end of the box for the couplers.
-Drive the couplers into the box and jb weld them.
-Insert plug in bottom.
-Cut the tubing to length and connect to box, head vent and inlet to air box.
-Insert stainless steel scrubber (oil will collect on it and fall to the bottom of the box preventing it from entering the air box).
-Run a bead of jb weld on cover and screw it down on the box.
-Done
It can be zip tied to the frame just inside of the panel laying down-cover facing up. Can be drained by removing the plug on the bottom.
All of these item except for the tubing can be found in any decent hardware store. I know this is a common problem with some Spyders. Hope this helps. A very cheap fix!
