• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

OEM vented windscreen helping MPG?

No..!!

there is not any significant change in wind drag just a redirection of some of it. Don't have the vented/slotted windshield but do have the adjustable extension on mine and have not noticed any change...:dontknow:

:agree: It'll be more about rider comfort than an improvement in fuel mileage...
...But that ain't bad either!

Another thought on the aero drag reduction...

That's what I thought might be the case, the opening at the bottom is pretty big, but thought the vent might help some by reducing the backside vacuum for smoother airflow.

On that note, I see the angle of attack of the windscreen is a compound curve. Using the iphone level app, I can see the the angle is ~33 degrees at the base, about ~40 degrees at mid section and ~46 degrees at the top. In looking at the 3 point mount, it might be possible to insert a spacer between the lower attachment point and drive mount to tilt the windscreen a bit. I'm not looking for the GL1800 raked look, but 5 degree tilt might help the aerodynamics as it is affecting a large surface.

I have to mount the windscreen this weekend. I'll take some measurements and see what I can fabricate to give a little tilt and still retain the raise/lower function. Look for Sunday evening for pics/results.

Forgive me. Being a newbie here, I may have some credibility concerns to deal with.

Here are my bona fides: I'm 70. Been riding since I was 16. First bike was an Indian because I grew up in Springfield, MA, the home of Indian at the time. I've owned at least 1 model of every major manufacturer since the 70s.

My last ride was a Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive with a Trinity Trike conversion. It replaced an HD Electra glide Ultra Classic. Unfortunately, the steering was too heavy for my aching back.

So here I am on what I consider to be, a compromised ride. But, it's still a ride and not a cage. My FIAT 500 Abarth checks that box.

It's taken me a little over 200 miles of riding to get comfortable with the spyder. I'm sure it will take many more miles to feel like I'm competent on it.

I've been to Sturgis. I've done the Tail of the Dragon and the Going to the Sun highway. I've ridden in Bermuda, Europe and the Philippines.

I've yet to complete the 4 Corners tour and the 3 Flags Classic. Started the 4 Corners but was stymied by hurricane season. The 3 Flags Classic is just tough to get into because it's a lottery. Hopefully they'll take mercy on an old fart this year.

Regards,

Dan
