OEM trailer wiring harness malfunction

Check those posi tap connections too. They just unscrew. They used Posi tapes. Pull the cover off from under the seat the wires and or module then would have to be in that area if not under the saddle bag. That is not a factory module that was used. Makes me wonder what you have.

To all those who reacted to the Posi-Taps; those are for aftermarket LEDs, they are not involved with the trailer harness. Sorry for the misleading photo; I should have explained that earlier.

Apparently I'm on Pete's ignore list.

His loss.

Hope he doesn't end up finding out that one of the pins in his trailer connector is pushed out the back of the socket and not making contact anymore.

No, you're not. I must have missed your post. Sorry.

Please tell me that you are NOT doing all of that without first checking the connector pins and it's wiring for voltage and grounds.
I have used a voltmeter to check for output on the connector pins, starting at the trailer. I traced the problem back to the four-square plug on the bike; no voltage on that circuit at that point. So, it has to be between the 4-square plug and the module I'm guessing.

Regardless of the vehicle involved, about 90% of the trailer light problems are due to bad connections and most of those are right INSIDE the connectors or a broken wire, that often on the back of one side of the connectors too. Most of the rest of the problems are burnt out bulbs or a bad connection inside the bulb socket. First you need a voltmeter.
Thanks. I've checked both sides of the connectors for continuity. The problem is in the harness somewhere.

The Duestch connectors are usually under the seat/panel and they run the wires towards the left rear and mount the module under the saddle bag cover bottom where the wire come out to the trailer. well anyway good luck
I think that's where I went wrong, in thinking the module would be behind the left tail-light. I'll check under that under-seat panel for it. Thanks.

Behind the left tail light and under the saddle bag plastic cover. That would be the area mine is in. Hope you find it.

If it is the module it would need to be replaced

The picture you posted the module would be lower under that saddle bag cover.

Interesting. You have a 2014 RTL also and your module is behind the left taillight? Is yours a BRP or after-market? Mine is definitely not in that cavity behind the taillights, so I'm going to look under the seat next.

Check under the left saddle bag cover. either there or behind or lower from the left tail light assembly.

Let me go and check mine and see if I can get a pic or something that maybe will help

Mine is behind the underside left saddlebag area see attached pics. Hope it helps. Pic is upside down

Hey triker, your harness must be an after market one. The only part of the OEM harness under the saddlebag is the connector for the trailer harness. OEM modules and after market modules do not plug into the same place in the bike wiring. Here's a pic of my trailer wiring connection into the bike harness. The Y harness is OEM although the rest of it is what I made myself. The OEM module plugs into the connector of the Y harness just like mine does. The Y harness plugs into the connector that connects the harness from the front of the bike to the harness that continues on to the taillights.

Utah, the access panel is held by 2 screws and and two tabs. All of the above is right under the access panel. After market trailer harnesses plug into the connectors attached to the taillight assemblies.

Nope mine is the BRP harness and module. The module is the behind the cover in my pics.

Your setup looks aftermarket to me with the isolator in your pic

I have the square 4 pin trailer connector on my Spyder.

Now we should have really confused Pete

What I see is the bottom outside of the left luggage compartment where the harness exits the tupperware for the 4-square connector. Are you saying your module is between that piece of plastic and the inner liner of the luggage compartment? If so, how do you know that?

Mine looks exactly like yours from under the bike, as you are showing. I need to find the module because my faulty circuit is probably between the 4-square connector and the module itself.

My harness is homemade, except for the Y harness. It's the one BRP includes in the hitch kit. I don't see how the Y harness and the pigtail on the module are long enough to get the module down by the saddlebag. According to the hitch installations instructions, http://instructions.brp.com/content...ler Hitch Spyder RT&rel_part_number=219400854, the harness from the module to the trailer connector is routed under that panel as your photo shows but it goes up the area just under the seat.

Keep hunting Pete, you'll find it!

Just did some more looking. It looks like they've changed instructions. According to this one the module is below the seat but just behind the gas tank, not up just under the access panel. http://instructions.brp.com/content... - Hitch (RT) 65492&rel_part_number=219400432.

You can find installation instructions at http://instructions.brp.com/content/instruction-sheet/en_CA/e-instruction.html#tab=1. Just put hitch kit into the search box to get these.

I'll give this a try tomorrow and let you all know what I find out. Thanks for your help.

Yep that's what I am saying its in that area where the module is located. Pull that black rear fender out farther to gain access to that area.

Guess it all depends who did the installation and where the module is mounted. It has to be between the under seat connections to the rear of the bike on the left side.
I got a feeling its between the left tail light and the lower saddlebag plastic.

Mine is where I posted the pics

Link to hitch and module.
