There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Observations of The Spyder Universe

These bikes make all of us feel like teenagers again!

:yikes::yikes::hun::shemademe_smilie:I did not need to see that, (poking eyes out, nightmares, etc.)

I agree.
The "largest part of the open road market" that I was referring to is the Cruiser market. I didn't use the term because it's one I don't understand.
What is more important to BRP is the age bracket.

As it stands right now the only way BRP gets young butts in the seats is when they drive their deceased parents RT to the auction house.

Okay, I should not have said that.
I'll retract it.

The age thing is interesting because I suspect unless Can-am introduce a really lary model (not just a brightly coloured RS) they are not going to ever sell high volumes to a young male demographic.

However maybe they should targeting the young female market (and the female market in general). Spyders already have a strong appeal to female buyers and it's a market that's largely ignored by the motorcycle manufacturers. There is also the paternal aspect - most fathers are happy for sons to ride motorbikes but less so daughters, however they would be happy for them to have a Spyder as an alternative. If BRP could successfully open up that market they would have it pretty much to themselves and I could see it growing rapidly.

PistonBrown, you're putting us Yanks to shame with your global countries visited map. :2thumbs: Most of us only have US States to color in! ;)

Ah but I could only color in 3 states if I limited myself to that - California, Arizona and Nevada:-)

There's a lot of white space on mine that I plan to do something about one day...

As a general rule I don't think Spyders appeal to younger folks. They are way expensive, not particularly fast, not economical, cool in the eyes of the beholder, don't even come with Bluetooth. And most millennials haven't even looked under the hood of their car, let alone creative farkling -- adored by this group.

I think BRP is in the same quandry as Harley Davidson in that they attract the older crowd and are struggling with the formula of how to keep their profits growing in the coming decades. BRP needs more than the F3, but it's a step in the right direction. Unlike HDs launch of their their Street series 500/750cc bikes is a late attempt to attract a younger audience while their heavy weight market slowly erodes over time.

My wife and have ridden for over 25 years, have 2 Harleys and 2 Spyders, and my kids and friends in their 20's could care less. I don't mind because I love these machines as much as I hate iPads!

If I were King of BRP I would take a page out their own history and create a lower priced, lower powered, lighter machine.

A Spyder elan.

If you aren't up on your snowmobile history, the elan was introduced in the early 70's and while I don't
have the sales figures, I think it was really successful and brought in many customers.

Of course I'm not King of BRP, much to relief of stockholders everywhere.

 A Spyder Elan?
Brilliant!! :firstplace:

If I were the King of BRP: I'd hand you the Crown, and stay out of your way!! :2thumbs:

Demographics

On demographic that seems to be popping up is the younger crowd that is just starting a family that wants the freedom of riding, but is concerned about the safety factor. I have had a few people ask me about the safety of the :spyder2: and are now looking into the F3 and the RT.

Here it is Value Engineering People.
Put a 399 Rotax in it, CVT tranny and let me drive it by 2 o'clock today.
We're gonna sell it for $6800

:D Will it also get 84 mpg?? :roflblack:

Seriously: I do believe that the Spyder line-up could use a purely entry-level offering.
Put the 600 ACE, and a CVT in it for the drivetrain, make it shorter, narrower, lighter, and MUCH simpler.
If it's necessary: tighten up Nanny's control over what will be new riders, with the possibility of having her relax her grip after a set number of miles. (Providing that she hasn't had to intercede too often, during the "newbie" time!)
Since it would be more of a local commuter-type bike; storage needs would be almost nil.

...And sell it for the $6800 price-tag; just to show somebody that it CAN be done!

yeah, seriously too this sort of thing is exactly what the market is needing,
Someone in this thread said that the new, next gen doesn't look under the hood and they are right.
I'm surrounded by people who buy new cars based on the radio.
A simple Spyder elan, Spyder appliance is what would make this very safe and very fun vehicle desirable to a huge segment of the population.

...And it HAS to be a better vehicle than the Roketa; right?

Actually the Rocketa concept is really good.
The fact you have to replace the tire valve stems, tires and fuel lines before you even start it seems like a fairly big drawback.

But BRP could build a really, really good Rocketa, sell it at roughly three times the price and make a healthy profit propelled by volume.

And have you noticed the fenders look amazingly like the premium fenders offered by BRP for almost a grand?

After going to Spyder Fest getting to know a lot of spyder owners I have come to the conclusion
that BRP has a huge market potential to women of all ages. I have never seen so many women.
on their own bikes in my life.

It's amazing that BRP attends all the Spyder Events yet they simply don't look at the people who attend them.

That's not only funny , it's apropos. My 43-year-old son, who rides a big V-4 touring bike, has already informed me that he is NOT keeping mine. Of course that may depend on how many more years I am able to stick around. :sour:

Rob, I'm sure that when he does have to settle it up your RT will have anti-gravity drive, a one touch button for time travel and possibly a panel system that does not require the mirrors to come off to do an oil change.

Cracked Up

This thread while really accurate in many regards has seared images in my brain that I was not yet old enough to have there. 46 does not yet need 70+ naked image.

Thanks for that.

I do appreciate the Spyder as it gets my Paralyzed self out in the Wind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
