• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Be nice if you had a little anti-seeze on it.

I know I know, at this moment you don't care if it comes back out ever or not. lol

.

They normally just don't come out. Ive seen 1 or 2 over the years on cars where the sensor itself broke out through the threads. Are the threads still on the sensor?

I've had one come out on a car before, at a track. I think it was running a little lean and ended up burning off any sealant/anti-seize and then backing out...or blowing out?

Don't know if they can. Check to see if it's broken or sperated. If twisting disconnect cable...

The only way they can twist out or unthread is if they were installed with the connector plugged in and not counter rotated first. I guess the maybe could unthread. However, It just doesn't happen.

Good pic snoops. Likely the sensor came apart or blew out the threads.

Best to disconnect it before you put it back in. I hope it is not damaged and the wires are not broken. Hopefully you can get at it with an open end wrench or channel locks (pliers). Normally these take a special, slotted socket, available at auto parts dealers. Don't use any sealant, it should thread in snugly without any. If you do need sealant or thread tape, make sure it is O2 sensor safe (auto parts stores can advise you). Don't turn a specific number of turns, just snug it up nicely. Not sure if you can land a replacement at an auto parts store if you need one. Hopefully there will be a part number on the sensor that can be cross referenced. I believe these used to be Bosch sensors, but I am not sure now.

That's an odd one... any chance for pics?

You must have been close to having it come out because I have to believe if it was out, you could hear it; strange.

Edit - which bike did this happen on?

The O2 sensor plugs in to the harness above the rear tire... well ya have to remove the panel above the rear tire to get to it. unplugging it and screwing the sensor back in would be the best way.... short of that... back twist the wires around 6 turns ... as far up the wire as you can, to keep from breaking the wires...and to keep the wires from being twist loaded when installed. An easy fix if I was there... but I'm not.... and hard to explain on the phone. Waiting on a call from FB in the morning to see if I have to drive to New Mexico to bring her bike home on the trailer.....Hope she can fix it!

This bike has been on the trailer more than it has been on the road.. the least road worthy bike I have bought in over 50 years of riding...getting pretty old.....

It happened on my 11 Rt 2 years ago,, pipe and sensor were changed under warranty.

Was the bung on the pipe bad? Did the O-2 sensor/bung come loose and fall away or nearly away? How did it get caught, a regular maintenance on bike by dealer?

Sorry for so many questions...

Jerry

Just FYI, its a 22mm hex on the O2 sensor. Usually you can thread them in by hand and then just snug up with a 22mm open end wrench. No need for the special slotted socket for installing.

Unless the threaded bung broke out of the pipe, the only way these come out is if they were not properly installed. IE properly torqued in. Really should disconnect from harness before threading in, then reconnect.

Good luck.

I feel for you Mark, it is very hard and extremely frustrating to fix anything mechanical over the phone. FB is a smart cookie and if anyone can make it work she will. Wish I was closer to help.

In all the years on this board this is the first time I've heard of that. Not sure how it could happen unless there's another problem. Wish I was there to help. :sour:
