Not sure what to do

Ok, I have a 2011 RT manual shift. Love everything about it, except the heat on right foot issue. I bought lamonsters Highway pegs, and top block off plate. Love that, bottom hole now puts out too much heat, so today I took off panel that bolts to top and bottom of radiator, and cut bottom off and put top piece back on, also took off bottom plate. Raining, so can’t see if it helped any. Meanwhile, I found a 2016 RT Manuel shift for 17000, demo. Has 400 miles on it. Full 2 year warranty. They said mines worth probably 7000 or around there for trade. Is the 2016 10000 dollars better than the one I have. Mine has 24000 miles on it, haven’t had any issues with it, hopefully if got heat issue fixed. I’ve got it all set up like I want..new would be nice, not sure what to do. Thanks for listening

Only you can decide if the 2016 is worth that much to you, Marr, but I'd suggest you take it (or another - any other!!) Spyder for a ryde to see if the heat the other Spyders put out is significantly less than what yours puts out!! So go for a ryde, see if the heat is that much different for you, and check out the differences between your 998cc V-twin motored RT & a 1330cc Triple RT. Most really like the lower revving more torquey Triple, but some of us really appreciate the higher revving more 'exciting' power delivery from the V-twins - you need to compare & make your own decision; and you should check out the differences (if any) in heat output while you are at it!

Peter's said it.

Only other thought is to get the scoops (for 13 rt) put on - I know your heat is lower down, but a change of airflow may do the trick. Others have reported positively.

I just ordered air scoops for my 2011 RTS. Haven't received them yet. For less than $100, they are worth a try.

The scoops aren't really going to do much for the heat on your right foot. They mainly take away the heat from the console storage and from around the seat where it meets the fairings.

To get the foot heat solved, just buy the right side honeycomb grille for the later model RT's from your dealer and install it as it has a block off plate that covers the bottom hole. Then take the splash cover off from under the right side. All the heat will go out the upper hole after doing this. The grille cost is $35 from the dealer, I think.

I would if it was me :)

I started with a 2013 ST-S. Also have a 2008 GS. Rode friends 2011 RT to decide if I wanted an RT. You are right, my right foot baked!! We saw and bought the 2016 RT-S (1330cc). The frame style and tupperware have been perfected (well it works!) and there is NO heat on my foot.

The other thing is the 1330 engine - has a huge power curve. I pull a trailer once in a while, and cannot even tell it is there. You actually have to roll on the throttle a ways to get moving. 15" front tires versus the 14" on the older models.

On the flip side, the 998cc 2008 GS is a rip-roaring burnout let me at them curves ryde!! You are more in a crotch rocket position though. Not great for my old bones for long trips. The RT is made for more comfort. Wife and I rode 2-up 8-10 hours a day and barely had sore butts. Super comfy with the BRP comfort seat that you get with the 2016!

If you are looking for something you plan on going on long trips on, I personally LOVE the 2016 RT's. Your older model probably is very close in comfort levels, but it does put out a ton of heat. I have seen a few complex heat re-direction kits out there. They come with insulation that goes on the radiator, inside tupper ware. Plus pieces that direct the air flow down below the pegs.

Oh - pegs! The 2016 has the large, rubber padded boards for both driver and passenger. They really eliminate road vibration. Combined with the deluxe seat the comfort level goes way up. But is it worth it? I wouldn't go back. The 2016 is so comfy that my wife wanted to learn how to drive and got her license. She did not like the pegs at all - but she had never driven a bike in her life either.

If you find the big heat kit, might be worth a try before spending the money on the 2014+ 1330cc models. If I see it I'll post a link here.

Just my two cents :)

Back in 2014 Rob posted his solution to the Hot right foot, I did much the same on my '13 and my right foot is just as warm as my left now. Total cost $21.00 US.
Venting under the bike with the '14 right side grill and block off plate did it for my previously smoking hot '13...:sour: Well smoking hot right foot anyway, otherwise a pretty plain white spyder.

Check the Y gaskets. I had a 2013 ST and it was fine until my right foot started getting hot. I found the right header gasket was almost gone. I replaced both and no more heat. Eliminate the problem, don’t just cover it up. These gaskets are silicone metal mesh rings that fit in between the header pipes and catalytic converter. The one clamp on mine was stuck but loose so it caused the heat to worsen the gasket.
