• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Not everyone can drive a Spyder.

Bottom Line: we run into some interesting characters when out and about on the :spyder2:. I have not run into any hostile types yet, mostly curious ones so far.

Jerks

Harleys are OK but you need someone to follow you with a bag to pick up the things that come loose and fall off them on a long ride, so it a spyder life for me.:doorag:

it doesn't matter to me at all

when I first got the spyder, my first thought was I have to join a riding club or motorcycle club or start my own group(I have about two pages of ideals and bylaws right now in my mancave). I would try to talk to every guy on a motorcycle and would even at times down play how much I love the spyder to try to show someone on a motorcycle that I understand that motorcycles run the streets and spyders are for guys like me who can't or won't ride on two wheels...fast forward to me today. I wave at people I see on motorcycles or trikes. If they wave back, great. If they don't, great. The thing is the spyder that I ride was bought with my money. It was not a group purchase nor a decision made by a group for me to buy it(unless you see me and my wife as a group ;)) so why do I need another person(s) to validate what I ride or what I do in general. When I am on the road my only concern is am I playing my music on my bluetooth to loudly and if it will affect my hearing. Classic motorcycle, sports bike, chopper, cruiser, mopad, spyder or whatever your flavor I respect you for doing what is best for you and not what others think is best for you. It takes more "you know what" to be different and make your own line than to stand in line behind everyone else....Amen!!!

I currently have 6 different bikes in the garage--(2) sport bikes, (1) dual sport, (1) sport touring bike, (1) cruiser and (1) Spyder. I find it very interesting the reactions you get from other bikers depending on the style of bike you're riding. In other words-bikers who ride cruisers react differently when I ride the sport bike as when I ride the cruiser. Sport bike riders give me a different reaction when I ride the cruiser--you get the point. I must be weird because I don't get it. What difference does it make what I ride? When I wave--I'm waving at the biker NOT the bike! But I guess there is a unique mentality that goes with the type of bike you ride. In the end, it makes little difference to me--I'm just out there enjoying myself and i don't care what others think.

Of all the places to Ryde in Florida. I will have to say the Conch Republic is by far the most beautiful place to Ryde. It has been discovered by Harley's, but I see Spyders mixed with Harley's all the time Ryding together.
Its my understanding that Texas is also a bit of a Republic also.:doorag:
Yup, the Republic of Texas. Where I am isn't really purty, but its redeeming virtue is an annual riding season of at least 11 months, and that's without any special riding gear, like thermals.

I was a 'Winter Texan' since '03 and then moved here permanently in '11.
Like many non-native Texans say, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could!" :roflblack:

I am very fortunate that I have a loving wife who lets me have lots of "toys". And when I have my wife on the back of the Spyder with me--it's the BEST feeling in the whole world!!! :ohyea:
 I couldn't find a way to put this into words. You did! Well said. I don't get it either (nor do I care if others do or don't).

Nothing better could have been said....

Usually when we see a thread like this, everyone comes up with a different reply that is better than what the OP did..........HOWEVER......in this thread, no one has come up with one better than the OP. "Everyone can't handle the Spyder" has got to be the best response I've heard.

So many people come up to me and say " I bet I could ride one of those, I'm gonna get me one, How much do they cost" I just smile and say, not much, and you better go get one before they are all gone!!;)

I usually just try and ignore those twits, but one kept at it. Finannly I said, I could not ride a Harley. He puffed and started to say something. I broke in to say, I gave up my CDL forlarge, oversize, heavyweight vehicles and bought a fun machine. He started to get mad, but several other bikers, including some HD, laughed. We had talked about spyders before, many said, they would seriouly consider Spyders, when/if they had to go to three wheels. Twit decided to leave. I alway have felt, it is not what you ride, but if you ride. Oldmanzues

I guess I was already immune to this treatment, I rode a scooter for years and still own one. Once I was riding my scooter and a beat up old car with 3 twenty somethings pulled up beside me and the driver yelled, "when are you going to get a real bike" and I yelled back, " when are you going to get a real car!!" The driver sped away pissed and the passangers laughing.

I always like to see the "hard core biker" types pulling their factory HD Customs on a trailer with a $40,000 Pick Up to a rally. And then telling me at the same rally (which I rode to) that I am not a real motorcyclist due to my riding a Spyder!

^^ This a million times over!

When I did ride a harley two years back most of the guys I ran into were still jerks with a chip on there shoulder so being "part of the harley" crowd really only meant you rode one or you had one you pulled out twice a year for the festivals. Even though I put 10k on my harley in a few months most of the guys who I ran into that were "drugstore cowboys" still had a chip on there shoulder unless your bike coast more than theirs.

What I learned in my harley days was 80% of the guys I meet who owned them were more concerned with there ride than the actual riding.

I love when I get the comments like "I might get one when I cant hold up my bike anymore" then they ask why I got one and I reply "I enjoy speed, handling, saftey and a ride I can enjoy weather im going out for 5mins or 500miles"

I love all bikes... loved my sports bikes enjoyed my harley... LOVE my spyder and I respect all those who love to ride no matter what they are on.
I laugh at those that think "riding" is about what you ride

I didn't know that Harley riders would look at other Harley riders differently. Never thought about that. I guess your just not one on them if you ride a sportster.

The two biggest questions to me are What kind of gas mileage do you get and how much do they cost? The first answer is you don't buy them for the gas mileage, If recreational vehicles were sold on gas mileage the industry would die overnight. The second answer is they cost bout the same as a gold wing but you get an extra wheel and all the safety features included free.

Yeah I ran into lots of guys with this attitude...

They would bark "its not a real harley" I would tell them they were not "real riders" they would look at me confused and proceed to tell me how hardcore they were with all there additions on there bike and how much the chrome cost and blah blah blah.

I would then refer them to the actual "hardcore" riders of old and explain that those guys they attempt to immulate did not ride couches nor did they trailer there bikes to where they needed to go..... but I would reassure them after I said that with "but hey they did wear leather and bandannas so aside from actually riding you guys are serious riders"

conversation usually ended after that =)
