There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Normal RPMs at idle?

I've noticed my Spyder idles at 1500 which seems high to me. What is normal? Or is this discussed elsewhere in this forum?

Thanks.

I believe the spec is 1400 + or - 50 rpm. Sort of like a Top Fuel car, eh? Nine months later and I'm still not quite used to it.

My SM5 also idles at 1350 to 1400 rpms
I too am not used to having something idle this high. At least not after warmup.

Idling this high after warm-up seems to be a waste of gas; maybe thats why they don't get very good MPG. When I take mine in for the 600 mile service I will ask the tech if there is any reason why its up this high and if possible, to lower the idle speed. Cany anyone think if a lower idle would be detrimental to the engine?

My understanding is that they cannot alter the idle setting. It is hard programmed into the ECU, and the program is not accessible through BUDS.

1450 is right on spec for idle speed. See the spec page at the end of the manual. My guess is that the flywheel is relatively light and they figured to get fewer burned clutches or less stalling on take-off by keeping the idle up. Probably less popping on throttle overrun too?? Lighter flywheel means quicker throttle response, but need a bit higher idle to keep it spinning.

Seems high to me too, but I guess I'm used to it by now. I doubt it can be changed due to the closed loop injection system. Does this thing have a stepper motor?? Acts like it does (slight surging at idle, like it's hunting for a mixture/reading that it can't quite find)

I had a 03 fuel injected Harley Hertiage and thought it idled to fast. was told by the service manager that they could lower the idle, but it would void my warranty. Something about the cam bearings not getting proper lubrication. The carb versions idled a good bit lower. Never could unterstand why a carb version could idle slower and still get the proper lubrication to the bearing.

It has nothing to do with the cam bearings. Fuel injected engines require more electrical output than the charging system can provide at lower idle speeds, therefore a higher idle to prevent battery discharge.....

Now, that makes sense.
