Noisy Fuel Pump??

Having put about 110 miles on my new 2104 Spyder RT I noticed a warbly kind of sound coming from the front of the bike. Right now it’s more annoying but I would like to get rid of the noise. After reading various threads I think I might have a noisy fuel pump? My question is, if I am right has BRP made any improvements to the fuel pump (different model number) or do I just rely on the dealer swapping out the pump for a different one and hoping this solves the problem? Appreciate any replies to my question.

We also have a 2014 RTS which had a noisy fuel pump, which was replaced. The dealer told us that there was a recall on them. He had 3 Spyders in inventory, which he changed out also. No problems since which was 1500 miles ago.

Noisey pump..

it's a known issue. Run it by the dealer and have them change it. It is covered but check that they have one on hand first...:thumbup:

Question

Is that the whining, high pitch sound when I first turn the key and wait for the mode button? It sounds like something is running or spinning, but I thought maybe it's normal as part of the start up routine??? All this time it may be a fuel pump on my 2014 RT-S gone bad?

Anyone know what I'm referring to or experiencing? Please help.

My dealer said they would not replace the fuel pump just because it is noisy. They would check it out and if it works properly they would not replace it.

Fuel pump replaced and noise has gone!

My friend, I think you should find another dealer... It's a known issue by BRP. Please see the link below on this forum, where I recorded a video of my 2014 RT-S when turning the key on. After that, my dealer ordered a replacement pump at no charge for me.

I would like to share some important changes I have noticed after the fuel pump replacement, besides of the silence:

  • fuel line pressurization is faster;
  • startup screen is also coming faster;
  • engine startup is easier;
  • fuel mileage has improved about 1 km/liter (13.5 to 14.5 km/l);
  • acceleration is clearly better than before.

For me it was easy to compare before/after fuel pump replacement, as I did not ride any other RT-S 1330 before I purchased mine. So, I suspect the faulty pump was delivering less fuel than needed and this was causing a poor performandce and could cause some engine damage over the time.

Dealer is replacing my fuel pump

I took my Spyder to my dealer to have them check out the noisy pump. They opened a case with BRP and are replacing it under warranty.:yes::yes:

Thanks Big # 1.... and AJ my service writer..... Job well done.

Yes.... high pitch whine that could be heard even while riding...... this is a know issue with BRP..... Dealer should have no problem getting this fixed under warranty.

Yep, that seems to be my RT. I have an appointment with the dealer and already talked to them about the fuel pump. The shop manager called BRP and said I would have to bring the Spyder in before making a final determination. We'll see what happens ......
