• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

No longer any Sponsors Advertising on SpyderLovers!

I tried to look at the BajaRon web site link via the home page or the links provided at the top of the page, and it does not go to his site. Is there an issue with his site or the link on Spyderlovers? And where have all the other sponsors gone too?

There are changes afoot with regard to our Sponsors, so it could be part of that... more news on that will be forthcoming soon, as we develop policy and processes to manage the changing circumstances, so please bear with us.

In the meantime, if you search on 'BajaRon', you can find any one or all of his posts - some of which have his website &/or other contact details in them ;) AND if you click on his username alongside any post that he's made, the drop down list that appears will have links to send him a PM or an email, so you can still contact him. :ohyea:

For those wishing to know who all the others were, here's a link to an older thread with all the former Sponsors linked in them:

https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?59762-Front-page-vendors-list&highlight=Advertise

Altho some or all of those links may not still be working, there should be enough info there for you to find them. ;)

My banner ads are still up (for the time being, though I expect them to go away). The links in my banner ad no longer work. Not sure why mine seems to be the only one. I wasn't told and I haven't asked. But you can put BajaRon.com in the Google (or whatever) search window and find us. We still do not have everything that we carry listed on our new webpage. But you can always call the shop 423-609-7588 with questions or to find an item you don't see listed.

At the moment, about half of the ads are not coming up when clicking on the banners.

Two posts above are giving all the information that the moderators currently know about the situation.

The site will be updated before too long. Thank you all for your patience.

No more advertising on this forum

Hi Everyone
I am sure you noticed that ALL the advertising is now missing from SpyderLovers.com
We all were informed that because of some personal issues, time and attention must be spent
on other things. All of us are still out there to assist you with your SPYDER needs so feel free
to contact any of the Sponsors you should find them in some old posts "I HOPE!"
Good luck to everyone and Ride Safe and thanks to Lamont and Joan for this great forum.

Dave, I hope that you and the other sponsors have realized as much or more of a benefit for your dollars spent as the users have benefitted from this forum being here. It's a wonderful place and I hope it continues on for a long time.

No information has been deleted from the forum archives. You should be able to do a search on the name and previous posts will come up concerning the advertiser in question.

It is a shame. But it is also what it is. I send as many this way as I can. Whether they join or not, I have no way to track. I probably wouldn't if I could. This format is generally going away. I'm not sure why as I much prefer it. Substance, quality, and continuity, at least for me, is much superior to Facebook, which is where everyone seems to be going. I have to be honest. I just don't see the attraction.

Add to this that it's probably taking most of Joan and Lamont's time and all their energy dealing with his health issues. This forum, as important as it once was to him, has become more of a burden than he wants to deal with right now. Not surprising and I certainly agree that he needs to focus on more important things.

I hope this forum can last. It is an excellent source of information and just plain enjoyment.

I am hoping that the knowledge shared over the years can be archived somehow.

If the site was to go away there would be a great loss of time and effort that people have put into this site that would be lost.

I would not have learned as much as I have about my spyder if it were not for this site.

Hopefully if Lamont decides not to be involved with this forum that it can be transferred to someone else who is willing to maintain it.

At this time, there are no plans to disolve SpyderLovers. Let us not post gloom and doom here. The sky is not falling on SL.

I understand that and I hope the best for Lamont's health.

But in reality the advertising dollars is what pays for hosting fees and resources to keep this site up and running which now means Lamont is the sole supporter for this site.

I would be willing to pay a subscription fee to be able to have access to this knowledge and support the financial costs of the site.

I love this forum format SO much more than Facebook. On FB, they decide what I want to see and every other thing in my news feed is an advertisement. God forbid I click on one of those -- because the next day there will be a dozen versions of whatever that item for sale was from a dozen other advertisers. It amazes me that anyone prefers it to a normal forum. :banghead: I have to be very careful to NEVER EVER click an ad there. If it really looks interesting, I'll go search for it myself!

I really like this forum, it has a lot of very useful information on it.

I have also helped a lot of people on this forum.

I hope that this forum stays.

I joined SpyderLovers and Facebook at about the same time, both less than 6 months ago.

I joined Facebook first because it was suggested to me as a good source of information about something that is going on in my life unrelated to motorcycles, and the first Facebookk group I joined has been very helpful for that.

I've since joined several other Facebook groups, some of which are Spyder specific, and some are more general motorcycle related.
Two of the groups I've joined are specific to motorcycle events in the state where I live.

I do check Facebook regularly, but not nearly as often as I login to SpyderLovers.

The one thing I hate about Facebook is the nearly constant stream of posts asking you to join a specific group, some of which are clearly trying to sell you something, or which appear to be outright scams.

And of course there's all the scam postings on Facebook Marketplace, one of which almost sucked me in. The only reason I didn't get scammed is the person that was selling something I was interested in asked me to pay using a payment method I wasn't familiar with. Google saved me, pointing out that the payment method they wanted me to use had no guarantees, and was frequently used to scam people out of money, and should only be used when you knew and trusted the person you were paying. When I suggested a different payment method to the seller, telling them I wasn't comfortable with the information I found about the preferred payment method, they tried to assure me it was perfectly safe, and when I said "no" they got nasty really fast. So I blocked them.

Mostly I just read the posts and comments on Facebook, but only rarely interact.

Glad you were not sucked in. Those people burn me up. My mom got scammed out of $7,500.00 which was pretty much all she had. She didn't ask anyone first and we couldn't get the money back. There are a number of good and safe ways to make payment. Paypal being just one. And you should always use a credit card too which gives you 2 layers of protection.

If scammers worked as hard at a regular job as they do at stealing people's money, they might actually accomplish something for good.

Further to the info conveyed by post #2 above, here's the Advertising policy/process we are running with for now:

"With the closure of the Forum's Sponsorship, Lamonster Garage is now completely funding the site, so in the interests of fairness to the Owner/Operators of this site, but also in order to still allow the Forum and Members to help out other Members, there will continue to be some Advertising permitted, but only as follows:
If you own or operate a site providing goods or services to other SpyderLovers Member's, you are allowed just ONE link to your site IN YOUR SIG LINE - this does not mean every employee at your business can join & include a link to the same site, it's a One Appearance Only thing, and you will benefit by having an active presence on the Forum as it will appear at the bottom of each of your posts - but be warned, as for all members & posting behaviour, frivolous posts or blatant 'post padding' posts will be removed without notice & possibly treated as spam with the consequent penalties.

If you are not a Spyder/Ryker related business owner or operator, but wish to recommend a useful product or a helpful site to other members, you are allowed to add ONE link to a post/thread referring to the particular product, but it needs to be either in the form of a recommendation of where to get something in response to another Member's request, or in a REVIEW post/thread; either way, members can post just ONE link to the product OR the supplier's site in their original recommendation or review post."

This may well be a (very) short term &/or interim thing, or it may become enshrined with the rest of the Forum Rules at some stage in the future - all that depends very much on how the Owner feels about it as & when he can get to review it, but he has far more important things on his mind right now! So, in the meantime, none of the other Forum Rules have changed, and the quote above outlines how we, the Mod Team, will be managing 'advertising' and the posting of 'advertorial' links &/or reviews going forward from now until further notice.

I joined this Forum after my first spyder purchase back in 2009 with my GS/RS. If it had not been for this community of knowledge. I wouldn’t have successfully done any of the Oil changes or fitted Accessories myself on the 3 Spyders I've purchased, which include an '09, '12, and my current '15 RTS and 622 trailer.
Thanks to BajaRon for supporting and supplying quality products throughout this time. Hopefully he will continue to offer parts for the older Spyders. Like mine.
Also, Thanks to Ann and Joe Meyer (Squared Away) for their friendship and Spyder knowledge/gatherings while visiting them.
So I would hate to see this community go away.
Planning to purchase a new set of tires from Lamontster garage sometime soon.

I thought that on the home page there was a list of the sponsors? I know for one BajaRon used to have a link. What happened? Or am I doing something wrong?

Earlier this year the sponsor system was dropped. It got to be too much for Lamont & crew to keep up with what with his medical difficulties. Running your own business take more than most realize. We are still allowed a link & contact information at the bottom of our posts.

If things lighten up for Lamont, the sponsor program may return.
