Short version: EVERY manufacturer has its share of really, really stupid and enduring problems with their bikes-- some even potentially catastrophic.

Doesn't absolve *our* manufacturer-- not at all!-- but it helps keep matters in perspective: nobody is perfect.

problem is....when it is your Spyder....you really don't care about the other manufactures.....you want your problems resolved...sure there are problems in every industry.....but multiple problems with one machine...is not right

I don't think anybody on here is really trying to get something for nothing we all just want what we paid for to be made right. That don't seem too much to ask considering the price of these things. Everything made can and will have an issue at one or more point but it's how those issues are handled is what makes or breaks a manufactures reputation. I have owned many GM cars in the past and it seems like every one when it reached around 80k miles it would decide that it no longer wanted the coolant in the engine. They all lasted to just past the warranty. I solved that problem by now purchasing a Honda CRV for the wife to drive. My spyder has been running a laundry list of issues since new (7 months) and they either "can duplicate it" or "they are all that way" these are starting to become old hat.

I agree completely!

But partly why I shared the link is to counter the frequent retorts we read from folks who insist that since they never had any problems with their Goldwing/HD/BMW/you name it so obviously the Spyder is a terrible machine, BRP is an awful company, etc.

Seeing as *I* have never had any significant problem with my Spyder, I could just as easily go into other bike forums and play that game-- "Your Goldwing has electrical problems? Shoulda bought a Spyder, mine is awesome!"-- and it would be just as inaccurate, seeing as there obviously *are* people who have had problems with their Spyders.... just like people who own other bikes.

Again, just offering perspective, and championing a little zen when times get frustrating.

:agree: I didn't read any of Dave's post as an attempt to minimize the impact that a malfunctioning bike has on any of us; he was just trying to say that none of us are alone out there... :shocked:

The OP puts the situation into a bit of perspective. I too am unhappy with the fact that some people have experienced one problem after another. I would not sit still for that either.

On the other hand, I do not condemn the brand, and say that all :spyder2:'s come from the factory with many defects and are pieces of junk from day one.

We have encountered situations where getting the problems solved have taken way to much time. We have heard of dealers from heck, and even slowness on the part of BRP. I believe that BRP is on track to become pro-active in customer issues--but, there is always room for improvement.

That is a good perspective, and probably accounts for most of the "brand loyalty" we see in just about everything from motorcycles to home appliances. The Spyder being my first "motorcycle" in 30+ years, I am lucky to have a problem free unit. If I had had problems like some on here have had, I wouldn't be on this forum today, because I would have figured out how to get that thing out of my garage, and my life, and never looked back.

I have to give you credit. You have had GREAT patience with your new Spyder! I probably couldn't have lasted as long. I'm sure the sweet taste of your RS did quite a bit to "offset" the bitterness of the new ST, and that probably helped to increase your tolerance for all you have been through. :thumbup::thumbup:

Question, does the lemon law come into play , for those who have on going issues ? I for one do not have issues for mine, but there are some that do !

I think I would be more forgiving to the problems IF I could get some decent backing telling me that they are looking into it and we'll get up fixed up, but no I keep getting the same BS run-around. Currently I'm still waiting to hear back from my dealer as to what steps are going to be next about the fuel puking and smell. I bet if I never call back and ask them what's happening I'd never hear back from them, they tell me they are waiting for BRP to call back.

Time is the best gauge in progress, lesson learn , stats and forum like this help the better future.
Case in point the awesome 2014 models are the result of the most frustrating times for some past spyder owners. Lesson learned in the past, Good luck to the next journey.

Let me start by saying that I had a 2008 GS that had a gas smell
I fixed it by rerouting the hose to the canister.
this was a design flaw that BRP still does not admit
Now I have a 2014 RT Limited with no gas smell [so far 3780 miles] because BRP redesigned the fuel tank to canister system
So to those of you that think that the older bikes are not a problem I ask you:
1 Do you think sitting on a tank full of boiling gas is safe ?
2 do you think that raw gas or gas fumes coming out the bottom of your bike is safe?
3 Do you think that you want to go for a fun ride knowing that you might burn up or blow up?

BRP will not admit they have a problem with these bikes and I believe these owners have a right and a duty to make it known that they are not safe

You may not notice anything wrong with your own bike until it is too late and you are injured or worse killed


No manufacturer will admit to there mistake until forced to. don't Waite till someone is killed

I love my Spyder and would not trade it for anything unless I could not get BRP to fix a safety problem
You guys with Safety problems keep on pushing to get them fixed whatever it takes. You may save your life or someone else's live down the road

Lemon Law is not in every state...I purchased my ST in Missouri...no lemon law.....I live in Texas...yes lemon law....kinda catch 22......but I really want my Spyder to run correctly

So based upon the fact that the transaction took place in a non-Lemon Law State, there's no legal recourse along those lines? :dontknow:

Has anybody ever researched which States do, and don't; include motorcycles as eligible for protection under their Lemon Laws?
