• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Newbie Transmission question...

I told you there would be Newbie questions... hahaha.

So, the Spyders with the manual transmissions, the ones with the clutch and the left foot gear shifter...

1) Is the shift pattern like a standard motorcycle 1 down and the rest up ( N-1-N-2-3-4-5)?
2) Is there a centrifugal clutch that kicks in if you don't shift down to a lower gear to prevent the bike from stalling?
3) Can the bike be stalled out?

The SM transmission (ie manual) operates just like a regular motorcycle tranny. It does NOT downshift for you and WILL stall the engine if you don't hold the clutch in.
I remember your first post on questioning which Spyder to buy. I highly recommend, as will others, that you find a newer 1330 with the semi-auto tranny. You will love it-Al
 
And you will also love a Spyder with the 1330 and a manual transmission, and you would likely have fewer issues with the manual.
 
The used Spyder supply around here is somewhat limited (at this time). We have ha ways to go before we're ready to purchase anyway. We still have to sell her bike first.

The ones that I have seen have all been manual with a clutch. She would be rusty with a clutch but would adjust. She is coming from a fully automatic bike with a CVT.

I think she would be much happier with the SE then the SM. Easy to just push the button when you want to shift up or pull the back button when you want to down shift with out pulling in a clutch lever. If you come to a stop and forget to down shift it will do it for you automatically so your ready to go in 1st gear with out stalling. Some of the older Spyder SM models had clutch lever problem where they were very stiff and many had to add a vacuum assist to help with the lever stiffness being so hard. there are some threads here about that, not sure if it was the RT or the F3. The SE5 and SE6 have been pretty good and I think almost everyone who has tried it ends up loving it.
 
To add a bit to CopperSpyder's post, one can treat an SE transmission as an SM if one desires which I routinely do when riding in the mountain twisties. I've 65K+ miles of flawless service from mine.

good idea look at the new rykers FYI also have CVT & well priced:thumbup: not to mention new &with warranty:clap: (think they even had lease offer)
 
For us (her) it will be used. Never will take a loan out for a new toy and don't have that kind of cash for new.

As far as a Ryker goes, it will be be a touring model as we go on long trips and comfort and storage is King. If I can't find what I for her that we can afford with cash, then we will wait until we can.
