• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Newbie Intro

Hey guys, I am in the same boat waiting for a new 11 model. I have ordered mine and am just waiting. The 26000 isn't chump change, but I looked at a new Victory Vision, starting at 23999, or a new BMW LT starting at 21700 both are bare bones for those models, and of course the latest Goldwing at 22899. If you look at the intro model for the Spyder it is only 21399 which is in line with the other intro or as I call them bare bones models. I agree, it is a big jump up from a Shadow or a VTX. Since 2000 I have owned 3 GW 1800's and a Victory Vision, so the sticker is not as much as a shock to me. The concern about being left along the road is more of a concern but hopefully I will have the same good luck as I did with the two wheelers.

I have noticed that from reading almost everything here, that aside from real problems like the clutch recall, dps recall, some of the oil in gearbox, and of course the fires, a lot of the problems were cause by doing mods where a wire grounded and such.

With my Wings, I never really had problems, but was involved in the first two models, 01 and 04. in the frame recall issue. There is also a list of service bulletins on the Wing just like on the Spyder. I hate to say it but the Vision gave me the least problems. On one of our last trips we were talking about that and I mentioned that I had been lucky with the Vision, and a friend of mine said, it wasn't luck, but good old American engineering. Might be something to that. Any way... I hope this helps put the price tag into perspective...

Edit... I only mentioned RT prices and not RS prices since Olddog mentioned the RTS.... Sorry...

Willy

I agree with Willy here! I am also a newbie, but a real bike newbie at that! I like to look at motorcycles but the idea of riding in 2 wheels on such high speeds and in more weight than a regular bycicle scares me. Untill I saw the :spyder:. What a beautiful machine! And going back to what Willy mentioned, some bikes are expensive for what they have to offer, the Spyder RT gives more bang for the buck, in my opinion. I've also been looking into trykes and even used ones are as expensive as the RT's!

Anyway, just thought I'd post my first message. I plan to buy a :spyder2: at some point... the difficult part was to convince the wife that I want one, now to clean the garage and make room for it. Anybody got any tips for a future bike rider? Thanks!:2excited:

You should be able to get all the information you seek on this site. The information is good and were not afraid to talk about the good and the bad of Spyders. Personally, I love em. Have had 3, 2008, 2009, and a 2010 RTS. Still own the 2009 and the 2010. We have racked up over 52,000 Spyder miles on the three models and have NEVER had a major mechanical breakdown on the road. We did go through the recalls, and some re-boots of the computer--but I don't consider that stuff to be major. We are quite happy with both our 2009 and 2010, so I do not intend on buying Spyder #4 in the near future. Hope you enjoy the site.

Thanks! Recalls and reboots are pretty common nowadays: I own a Toyota Tundra :firstplace:and I am a IT Specialist :doorag: (Windows based systems :opps:) :roflblack:

The spyder is just like any other new car or bike some will have problems and some will not I have put 11000 miles on mine so far with no real problems
and my dealer has taken care of all the small problems very well
the biggest problem I see with the spyder is finding time off to ride
welcome hope you can get yours soon

welcome new guys!

Warning-- hanging out in here will cause you to spend money on all kinds of mods! :roflblack:

You keep reading this site and it will sound like a bunch of teenage girls texting each about boys only with us its the Spyder. Good grief I love it.
:2thumbs::roflblack: Welcome

welcome to all the newbies. 2 1/2 yrs ago I was a mewbie to motorcycles. Wife was the one that picked out the :spyder2: for me. Boy, what a great choice. I couldn't imagine being on a different ryde. Have had a ton of fun and I can't put a price on that.

Welcome newbies, wannabees, and soontobees! I'm an oldie, riding for fifty four years so far! I love my wife's Spyder - it's by far the best three-wheel experience! But I'm not ready to give up two wheels yet. Having owned MANY brands and models of motorcycle, I find the Spyder to be way above average in technology, and below average in build quality. But it's the only game in town, so there's no real rush by Bombadier to address its problems. The only question you have to face is: Does it's unique character outweigh its problems? For us, it does!

after sale service

IMHO one of the main factors affecting your level of satisfaction with an item of this magnitude will be the level of service your local BRP distributor can provide. Based on some of the posts on this forum some owners are fighting problems which should have been solved by the dristibutor if they had skilled service technicians.

Just bought it! Picking it up tomorrow! Very excited (both me and the Boss Lady):shemademe_smilie::2excited:

2010 RT Silver Moon Gray A/C Package. Got the dealer to drop it to 21700 with tax, title and everything in between. Also extended the warranty since I feel that 2 years and making payments for 5 is not exactly a smart move.

Love the forum. Looking forward to meeting with some of you around in the real world!!

:agree: I've been going thru a little of a hard time getting my motorcycle endorsement on my drivers license since most MSF Riders Edge classes encourage you to take the class on a 2 wheeler (obviously:duh:). But that just went to show me 2 things: 1) Motorcycles are fun and 2) I'll stick with the trikes for now :doorag:
