Newbie curious about filling gas tank

.The RT's in the new 1330 frame , can safely be filled to just below the BRIM ( where you can see it )..... BRP reconfigured the EVAP (charcoal canister ) system..... Now the gas tank CAN"T dump gas into the canister, because the gas can't get to the canister ( unless you overturn your Spyder ) ..... earlier Spyder's did have this problem but the 14 & up RT's don't ....... I'm not terribly concerned about getting the kind of mileage I'm used to on bikes (45 to 50mpg) but use that information as an indicator of something else being wrong. I'm also used to getting around 200 or more miles on a tank. That seems to be well beyond what a Spyder can do. Most of the time that is not a big deal, but sometimes in the areas I like to travel, less than that can raise the pucker factor on finding fuel.

First point (mileage as an indicator) well taken. Something that BlueKnight911 also said in his post. I've been doing that with all my vehicles since the '60s, more out of habit than anything else. I don't think it's as big a concern with modern engines, but I do it anyway.

Second point (200 miles per tank beyond what a Spyder RT with triple can do); not so. I plan on 240 in ideal conditions and adjust from there (not always successfully-see running out of gas in the desert).

Yeah, getting a 'full' tank is critical in some places. That extra 0.8 gals can be the difference between being stranded or not.

I have never run into a place in the lower 48 where there has been more than 100 miles between gas stations.

One place that I know of on the Alcan Highway--Destruction Bay to Tok area. Also, above the Arctic Circle--you need extra gas along. I don't take my :f_spider::f_spider:'s there anyway.

I use a more simpler method--just to make sure here in Alaska. If I am out and about on a longer ride--I buy gas where I see it and keep the tank topped off. Besides, a pit stop at 50 to 100 miles is always liked by the two of us.

I have only tested the limits out once and that was within a mile of a gas station. Most of us can expect at least 150 miles on the 998 version and 200 miles on the 1330. That is enough for my style of riding. Most times, we re-fill before the warning light goes on. :yes:

Believe me, they exist out here in the mountain west (Nevada particularly). There's two I know of with 135 miles or more between stations.

I know that situation does exist so my post was just a suggestion of a way to overcome the situation--most of the time. I try to not ride blind in new areas. I don't want to get caught with my gas down. :roflblack::roflblack:

Come on guys, we all "top off" our vehicles by pulling the nozzle back a bit to get a bit more in the tank.

No we "all" don't.

I don't think I have ever done that; second click most of the time though.
Don't remember seeing anyone else do it either.

P.S. Some cars will mess up the charcoal canister by doing that too.

in the attached map, the closest gas stop on the route was 200 miles in Logan, NM unless I wanted to zig-zag off my path or double back after reaching my intended goal of checking out FM767 and NM420 for condition of and/or presence of pavement. :yikes:
