New vs Used

I recently purchased a 2011 Spyder Limited and have already decided I want to move up to a 2014 and up. There are quite a few very low mile 2014 and 15 Spyders RT's for under $20000. Example: I've found a couple of used Limiteds with less than 3,000 for slightly less than $20,000. Yet, for $4000 to $5000 more I can step into a new 2015 Limited. Plus, I don't have to have a limited. I normally buy used to save a few dollars but I'm on the fence with this one. I have a guy coming to look at my 2011 today.

I usually purchase used as well, but when I went to purchase my 2014, I was able to buy new cheaper, and have a warranty. This fall I will be looking at another M109. I have seen some nice, low mileage 07-11 for around $7k, but there is a dealer selling new leftover 14 for $9-10k. The warranty means a lot when purchasing new.

USED & THE WARRANTY THING

First the LTD. adds a hugh amount to the cost of the bike new or used and for what --- really !!!!......#1. if used , is the bike under warranty NOW - you can get a BEST extension ( which is factory coverage ) for very little money .#2....the difference between the 14 and 15 were very small unless you are looking at the F-3......jmho....Mike :bbq:

Personally, I hate buying used. Mainly because I'm OCD with my machines. There are way to many "backyard mechanics" that really should leave the wrenches in the toolbox, or machines that have seen some poor dealer only servicing.

I guess for me, my younger/poorer years spending countless hours and money "unfarkling" someone else's abortion in the attempt to try to save a few bucks has paid its toll.
And "dealer serviced" to me is not much better....[emoji85]

Tough one...

I guess it all boils down to the budget....I have abilities and can apply them to making things be what I want them to be. If you don't the choice is a lot tougher. I have seen many buy low and high milage units and have been very happy with them. If your going to the 14-15-16 with low mileage you really can't go wrong they have proven to be quite reliable. If the difference is managable by all means get the new one even if not the top model you can add to it....:thumbup:

#1 - When you buy New you take a BIG depreciation Hit as soon as you drive away?
#2- The More Expensive the Model the more the Dealer Makes on the model because they get a bigger percentage of profit with the Upgrades SO they always want you to buy the Most Expensive ones!!
#3- I Always buy the base model because with a MP3 and earbuds I'm in Heaven?

I have both a 2011 RT A&C and the 2014 RT-S. Both are great :spyder2::spyder2:'s. They are very different when it comes to operation, sound level, mileage, and maintenance. My favorite is now the 2014.

I went to the dealer today who has a new RT-S at $6000 below list and offered me more for my 2011 Limited than expected. But then I'm looking at a used 2014 Limited with 2800 miles for $4,000 less than the new one. I have an offer on my 2011 that's pretty good as well. Hmmmmm

I have only had 2 new vehicles and the Spyder is one of them! Very happy it is.. Warranty was the plus!

The guy sold his 2014 Limited tonight. It was sweet and only had 2800 miles! Went for $19750. That was the one I wanted so my search is on.

There are a lot of good used Spyders out there. Like all motorcycles people buy on impulse and then find out they dont find it as fun as they thought or they are not as brave as they thought and quickly put it up for sale at a huge loss.

Sometimes you have to weigh out if they have great financing and rebates on the new ones. Warranty is huge if you can take over or extend it on a used one. Alot if it comes down to your budget. Sometimes its hard to decide when you see it and really want it bad to think rational. ..... Speaking from experience.:banghead:

Not sure how to post, Went for a new one, last Aug. here no one takes great care of cars or trucks, afraid would be the same with a can am ....oh was a 2015 RT limited. Red....:bowdown::bowdown:

New vs used is always a big question. Used still under warranty is usually a good deal, because you save some money and still have some protection.

There are no guarantees that you won't get a lemon when you buy new, either - we've all seen folks who bought new and had nothing but problems, so there can be something to be said about buying a model year that has been around for a year or so and the design flaws discovered by someone else.

Look at what those of us who bought new 2013 RT Spyders went through. Many of us would have been much better off buying used 2012s.

There are very valid pros and cons to both choices, so, in general, there is no "right" answer. It all depends on the particular machine you bring home.
