• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New thermometer...

I got tired of guessing what the ambient temp. and decided to change the way I checked it. I had a clock and a thermometer from clocks4bikes.com that were made for my 7/8 in. handlebars on my Honda 750 Nighthawk. I sold the bike and haven't used them for years. I decided to order blanks for the temp/gas gauges. Stevedfive was kind enough to send me ones he had for free! I also called clocks4bikes and they sent me sticky back chrome bezels that the devices would fit right into. I removed the gas gauge, installed the blank and stuck on the thermometer. I also insulated the back of the clock so the temps from inside should not affect it too much (i Hope). Here is the original product and the final install.

Nice Look

The build up of heat underneath the Spyder's tupperware is significant, and you may find that the ambient temperature reading on your thermometer might be significantly skewed as a result.

My digital temperature gauge is mounted in the same location that you chose, but I had to run my sensor down to the lower air intake port below the front trunk, to get any sort of realistic temperature reading. (it was a trial and error process to find the right location) I found that sheltering the sensor anywhere beneath the plastic gave me extremely high readings as a result of all of the engine heat being captured beneath the plastic. That has been my experience.

I would be very interested in learning what your experience is with your current location/hook up. I like the looks of your set up and would definitely thinks about using your set up when my gauge eventually bites the bullet.

I realize it will probably read high when standing still. I am just hoping for something better while "on the move". I will certainly check it agains a tiny one I can attach to my coat sleeve.

And I thought that carrying more than just one flashlight made me seem paranoid... Three Thermometers??? :roflblack: :joke::joke::joke:

Can't you compare the newly installed one to the built-in temperature gauge on the Spyder console? Mine has always been quite accurate.

I took a ride yesterday and Alas, The digital was was closer to the "real" temp than the new one. The location still holds the heat in that area. I havnt had a chance to go on a long ride so It may be better while cruising. It is certainly an exercise in futility, at this point. The ridiculous thing is the 50 cent one that attaches to my jacket is way more accurate than any other! :gaah:
