• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New SPYDER rider here !!

Think you saved enough on purchase price to afford to change out the red panels for white ones (or have a paint and body shop re-finish the red panels in white) if you want to.

DESS is the Digitally Encrypted Security System. It reads a digital signature in the Spyder key to confirm it is truly the correct key before allowing the Spyder's engine to start. If you were to make a copy of the key at local hardware store, the copy could turn the ignition switch but the Spyder will refuse to start because the key copy won't have the DESS signature. Ergo, whatever you do do NOT lose your original keys because without at least 1 of them the dealer can not replicate a new DESS key for your Spyder... if you lose both keys, you will have to replace the entire DESS system in the Spyder $$$$$. Put the spare key in a very safe place. The code in the original keys is unique and tied to your Spyder's DESS system, if both keys are lost then the entire system has to be replaced.

On the plus side, it makes the Spyder virtually impossible to steal... even if a thief drills out the ignition switch in the handlebar and turns it on with a screw driver, no joy! Short of dragging it onto a flatbed tow truck, your Spyder will not be going anywhere (always turn and lock your steering when you leave it anywhere... they may be able to figure out how to release your parking brake but with steering locked to one side they'd have hell pushing it very far! LOL!)

ps. My 2000 GMC Dually truck also has a DESS security system (as does my SeaDoo RXT jet-ski). Last year the truck suddenly stopped recognizing my ignition key, would not start and the Security light was lit on my dash. WTF? I did some research and found out that the tin plated connector that plugs into the DESS sensor inside my steering column was probably the problem... I took the steering column apart and unplugged/replugged it a few times then put the key in and it started right up! Oxidation on the connector was preventing it from reading the key signature (it was 15 years since that connector had been plugged into the sensor after all)... put column back together and no problems since.

Congrats on your new baby!!
