Hello to all Spyder riders from Colorado.
Picked up a new Silver 2nd edition :spyder: from Xtream Performance in Castle Rock, CO. Not a PE model :edit: . My first dealer stiffed me on the PE sale. Ordered Feb 07, I shipped out March 07 for a 4th tour, my 3rd in Iraq. :spyder: arrived Nov 07. I was still deployed and he would not hold it nor let my non-riding wife pick it up. Gave her a big hassle on returning the deposit too :edit:. Now she’s been riding :a18: a Buell for 7 months and picked me up a Spyder after I completed rehab.
Stats: 20+ years with the US Navy, 13+ with Navy Reserve and other agencies.
50+ years old, 6 foot, 210 lbs.
Trained EMT & Battlefield Medic, now working with computer imaging systems. Needed a change of pace.
Why a Spyder: After a 3rd IED in 5 years, I’ve lost the bottoms of both feet and some bone/muscle of the right lower leg. So I cannot hold up a good 2 wheeler without fear of embarrassing myself at a stoplight. I love the Spyders large trunk; I tend to carry a lot of Roadside Medical Equipment (C-Collars, Blood Clotter, Triage wraps). I usually ride as Tail-end Charley on group rides. I’ve had to use my training to many times to count over the past 25 years.
Past Rides: 1973 AMF Harley Davidson 175 Great starter bike for a rebellious teen.
1975 Kawasaki 900 The green terror of NAS Miramar
1969 Norton Commando Fastback 750 My first touring bike for the West Coast.
1982 Yamaha TZ 500 G Wish I had not sold this one. Best I’ve had.
1983 Yamaha Vision XZ550 Was a daily commuter till I shipped out in 03
This :spyder: is a great ride and real head turner everywhere I go. Took it almost to the top of Pikes Peak over Memorial Day. Had trouble at 11,500 ft with the engine missing :dontknow: so turned around. Still a ton of snow on the Peak at this time of year. I’ll try again the day of the Hill Climb.
Thanks to this and other web sites I’ve picked up a bunch of mods and ideas to make this a real custom ride.
Keep safe
