New Side panels

It sounds to me that the only one doing the SMOOTH SALING is BRP. Their laughing all the way to the bank.

BRP made an inferior product, fun to ride but always watching the heat bars and afraid to go on a long trip. And I am looking at about 7000 this summer over 6 weeks.

BRP should step up and offer to remedy the problem at little or no cost.

My two pennies.:sour:

Meet my new "Spyder Angel" LOL, well - new cool comfort, same bike, new 2014 Air Flow Panels. Just got her back today. I'm still in Yuma so haven't ridden her yet but John rode her home 2 hours from Las Cruces in 90+ weather and she was cool as a cucumber. He said the air circulation was amazing ... I've detailed my trials and travails with the heat and BRP on this site more than once and all I can say is thank you BRP, I've been moaning and groaning since June about your poor Customer Service but BRP Care really came through for me. All it took was me doing things the right way, I documented everything and kept an in-depth paper trail with dates, pics and details. I did everything I could, as did my dealer - when we reached a point where we could do no more BRP stepped up and did their part. They are now "officially" on my Good List! All I need now is to get my new Spyder Angel Wrap in the mail and get her installed and I'll be exquisitely happy indeed! Don't you just love a happy ending?

By the way, I did not have to watch my heat bars - my engine did not over heat once. The problem with the hot panels was the poor circulation in the engine compartment, lack of air flow. As for me? I've been on plenty of long trips and plan on plenty more!

In what way are you saying they stepped up?

You said you purchased and installed your $700+ panels? :dontknow:

Jacque, What was your bottom line cost for this "fix"?

I was prepared to purchase them ... then decided after the money I spent on my bike BRP should be given the opportunity to 'step up' and take care of it. They did. I sent my paper trail (I posted it on this site) and a outlined my concerns to the BRP Team who called me. I spent an hour on the phone with a very personable rep, answering questions and just talking about my bike, my frustrations, etc.. He went above and beyond by calling my dealer. Between the two of them, they made arrangements to order and install the panels. They are on my A-List for sure. I think the fact that I kept a very complete and concise paper trail detailing all my visits to the dealer, calls to BRP, self fixes, etc. with dates and pictures. Also the fact that I and my dealer had done everything we could to alleviate the problem and had reached a stopping point, we could go no further so our only other avenue. They could not do a recall because not everyone has the heat problem, and many are purchasing the panels just for the looks. I am very happy that, after following the 'process' (don't know if that if the right word) BRP took care of me and followed through to correct the problem.

I think BRP knows there are issues. I've said there were problems w mine enough to change to the new panels to my dealer and all I get is a funny look. With me stuck with paying $800 for the fix and you telling me that BRP stepped in and took care of yours...I think I've just decided this will be my first...and last, Spyder. :(

Side panels

That's good, BRP did step up and remedied the problem. I'm glad to hear that.

Now I feel much better about heading west to OR. and points between and back again not having to worry that I be going broke replacing melted side panels. I'll just save them until I can get to a CAN AN dealer and have them replaced.

Did I mention that my roadster had a bad thermostat out of the box.

PS
I asked Ron would I hurt the bike if I rode without the side panels, he advised against it.

BRP did not just step in, I contacted them several times and finally escalated it to BRP Care on the advice of a post on this site. Like you I had tried my dealer , 4 times for me at least, to no avail. Also, oan my last call the service line Rep had told me to hold off on my purchase of the 2014 panels a because there was a "FIX" n the works. I thought the last service bulletin was it but my dealer told me he didn't think so,. Anyway, I held off somemore although I did research parts lists, prices, where to buy etc. . It was my going to BRP and pursuing them that got the ball rolling.. It was my detailed paper trail and record keeping, dogged persistence in letting them know my frustration. And it was my BRP Care Rep who listened then ask me and my dealer a ton of questions to make sure he could help me.

I admit I was getting frustrated with BRP and ready to just go buy my panels myself until I decided it was up to me to make it happen. I'm glad I decided to be patient and work through the channels to get the help I needed. If I had to purchase the panels myself I doubt I would have trusted BRP enough to purchase another Spyder. That is not the case now. I don't agree with everything they do but I do understand I had to be patient and do things their way and I DO trust them now. I would buy another.

Persistance paid off

I hope that BRP really fixed it for you. I am not as persistant as you and took matters into my own hands. It has also helped alot. But I refused to spend $800 for new body panels to do it. The resolution I chose really seemed to help the left side heat issue & the gas smell, but it has its own side effects. I really hope there is a "FIX" in the works.

I would still buy another Spyder as it is just to much fun not to ride one. If BRP does not resolve the heat problem I would probably switch to a model with the 1330 in it.

I wish we could talk face to face...because right now I'm just totally pissed off that you got done what 50 other of us needed done...at our own expense. Not your fault, but really totally pisses me off that I had to spend money to correct their problem.

Actually it pisses me off that this type favoritism happens on this forum seemingly over and over and 99% of us are left to spend our own money for a freaking fix that. BRP should have fixed!!!

Good for you...but we are screwed! Fending for ourselves!

I need to to find a better forum. Sheesh

I don't know what your circumstances were or how they relate to my experiences. I know I was able to research and use the forum to learn an awfully lot of good ideas as to how to go about trying fix my problem and it had nothing to do with favoritism. I was able to pick and choose ideas that pertained to my situation. I do understand your frustration but like I said, I don't know what you did or didn't do as compared to the path I followed. And I am not sure what the forum has to do with BRP? I thought it was a private forum started by Spyder Owners for Spyder Owners. Also, I don't know if you contacted BRP Care but if not perhaps now would be a good time to do so. I'm not sure what they can or will do once you've already purchased the panels ... that's why I waited so long to jump in and buy them on my own. One thing I might add if you do call is that despite my frustration I stayed calm and relaxed when interacting with anyone I talked to regarding the situation. I believe that helped my situation tremendously, all of my interactions with BRP Customer Service, my dealer, and BRP Care were to the point but very civil. I hope you don't leave the forum. I really enjoy your input and would hate to see you go.

BRP

I can't even get BRP to reply to an e mail I sent them 4 weeks ago to do with a simple matter of a Welcome pack, so what chance would I have about heat issues.
They take your money and then leave you to fend for yourself.

Thank you ... so just out of curiosity what did you to to fix the problem? I apologize asking you to repeat if you've already posted the answer but am too tired to go through all the posts again regarding the heat issue .. I look forward to your response.

I agree for the most part, I've contacted them three times and been waiting almost a year for my Welcome Packet with no success. They always say it is handled by an outside source and they will send in another request. I also haven't received any of my mileage pins I requested. Don't give up though, if you've got it in you keep trying. You don't know what might happen if you just persevere ... and if I might repeat, I really believe a detailed paper trail and good documentation will do more than anything to get you satisfaction; and a positive, friendly attitude definitely couldn't hurt ... :)

Sent you a PM.

If you have a problem with your spyder ...follow this link to get help http://can-am.brp.com/spyder/form/contact-us.html BRP reads this every day.....

Thank you FlamingoBabe ... I used that several times and got a response every time. There is so much wonderful information on this forum. It's the first place I go when I have a question about my 'Spyder Angel'. This forum is how I found out about GOS, a wonderful group that has turned into family!

Did you get your other panels? Janie said you made quite a splash at Spyderfest with your 'Hybrid' bike. I enjoyed all of the pictures you posted, I almost felt like I was there ... Are you going to be at the Owner's Event?

Link

I can't use it as it doesn't recognise that we are in New Zealand, that's the problem with living in a third world country. I have tried contacting the NZ BRP office, but get no reply from them, that's why I thought I would try going to the top.

Panels

Jacque, congratulations in getting BRP to step up and pay for your panels. My ST-S has had minor heat issues but I corrected those with about $80 in heat shielding and reflective heat tape from the local auto store. My last mod was last weekend when I ripped out my air box and resonator and installed JT's air filter kit. It wasn't absolutely necessary, but I thought if I could create more open space in the engine compartment for air flow, it couldn't hurt. But it sounds like your new panels have accomplished the same thing. Hope you have many smiles and trouble-free miles from now on.
