• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Ryder questions about addons

just bought my :spyder2: RS-S last Thursday (the 24th) and was wondering:

1. what are the reflector upgrades for the rear wheel called and where to get them? (all the Brightsides i have seen for the rear wheel are for RTs) i have seen some members have posted pics of RSs with this upgrade so i know someone does (or did) make this upgrade.

2. is there an upgrade for the fog light package? (i don't mind aftermarket) by upgrade i mean: a) higher wattage/more light and, b) has working hi/low. if so, what are they called and where to buy?

3. for wheel lighting are GloRyders the only option or are there other manufacturers? nothing against them, just i bought an RS-S to get some extra blacked out features and don't wanna add bright silver caps (and my noob butt doesn't know where to go to get things powder coated).

thanks to any and all who respond.:spyder:

The Brightsides are'nt RT specific; They should fit the front fenders of any Spyder... (I think!)
There are some different bulbs available for the foglights. I'd check with ESI, Kewlmetal and a couple of the other sponsors of our site. I don't know of any "Hi/Low" switched systems though.
I believe that there was a recent post about other wheel-lighting options... maybe a search of the threads will pop it up for you...
Oh! :welcome:

Just visit site sponsors ESI AND TRIC lighting for all your lighting needs. There is another light option other than GLO RIDERS much more expensive and I'm not sure of the name .

i don't recall them being "made" for the RTs but the shape of them is an RT rear reflectoc and the RS has a totally different shape. i just don't want to order them and then they don't fit :sour:

thanks, i have seen Tric stuff but on other sites (like customdynamics and blackwidow) but have not been to their site.

thanks everyone for your insights! happy ridin'!

ooops, misread

we both seem to have misread each other earlier:
i want a REAR tire reflector upgrade, there is one made for the RT (i could swear it is also called a Brightside) but the RT rear wheel reflector is a very different shape than the RS one.

i will probably try the other (and MUCH cheaper upgrade) that Campverdefela did. it looks nice, fits and saves LOADS of $$$.

Check out RAW design(a sponsor on this site)for wheel lighting.I just finished mine and will post a video shortly.

So far the RS rear reflector LED is a custom job like the one posted by Campverdefela. There are also other ways to get more light back there and just leave that reflector alone if you want to.

The only wheel lighting made specifically for Spyders that I am aware of right now are the Glo Ryders and the Fire Power Wheel Kits by RAW Design which can be seen at http://www.metricfats.com/?page_id=10&category=53 .

Dest of luck with making your Spyder yours.

That is easy enough to do as well. I have an additional set of red LEDs under the seat pan that are tied into the running and brake lights. A small resistor makes them go from dim while running to bright when braking. I have amber LEDs on the rear side of the passenger handles that are tied into the rear turn signals as well.

Spyder Legs question

does anyone on here have Spyder Legs, Taillight ?
i am wondering because when i get them i want to add another pair of lights (to make it an 8 legged light instead of six) and want to know:

what length are the top and middle strips?

what brand lights are they (so i can get closest match)?

if brand of LED strip unknown does anyone know which company makes one that looks closest to ones that comes with the Legs kit?

thanks again for any suggestions!

:congrats: :welcome:

I Dont know alot about lighting or wiring. I'm all for visibility, safety, etc., but I guess I am continually shocked at the price of stuff.
Almost $300 for some lights, regardless of kind just amazes me. I'm not financially endowed enough to buy many addons. Guess I'll just ride and enjoy.

If I had to guess, I would think they created the kit using either their 6 or 9 inch strips. Can't be sure about it, but that is what makes the most sense to me. This may not be the case though, as looking closer at the pictures these look like tubes of light instead of individual LED bulbs.

I have 12 inch red strips that work as running and brake lights on the seat pan, along with 8 inch amber strips on the rear of the passenger hand rails. I got these lights from www.tricled.com and they are working very well for me, if you check out their order page you will see some good pictures of examples. I could add more red strips to mine at anytime to get close to the same effect.

If I were in your shoes, I would send reggystan an email or PM and explain to him what you want to do. He can probably create exactly what you are looking for using his 8 inch strips and may save you some coin in the process. I am not trying to pit 2 site sponsoring vendors against each other, I am just trying to let you know what options you may have available.

thanks. if i knew lengths i could also change it up, i think the bottom ones are too short, so really want 2 "top" and 2 "middle" legs to make my 8 leg design. of course all this it moot until i have the coin to go ahead and make the purchase, which may be 1-4 months.

also, talked to shop today, my :spyder2: is done! sadly, i have a VERY busy weekend so i will not be able to pick it up (or have it delivered) - or even time to ryde - until Tues... :(:wrong::barf:

so my plan is: get it Tues (at about 11 AM - which is very early for my night shift butt) and then practice in the neighborhood for about 3 hours. if it comes back fast enough then i ryde to work all week. if not then Tues-Sun (my workweek) i ryde every day for 2-4 hours before work until i DO feel comfortable enough to ryde to work!:dontknow:

I know it is going to be super hard to wait for Tuesday to get here. Best of luck getting used to the ryde, and stay safe out there.
