• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New RT break-in

So - am about to take delivery of a new '15 RT-S. The issue is that since oil changes won't be as easy as they were on the other bikes, Is a full break-in procedure needed for these new engines. Would really like for the rings to seat properly, but don't know if Rotax has gotten the ring coating down yet. I've got a set of ramps and a floor jack, but still, it ain't as easy as a Fumoto valve.

the break in will be in your owners manual and the dealer should explain it to you. For the rings to seat well you need to keep varying the rpm's. So don't get on the freeway and cruise at 55/65 for hours. A good 500 + miles will do...:thumbup:

My Dealer's tech told me to just "go easy" for the first 600 miles or so. (Like the 998s)
Once you get past that point; don't be afraid to let your right wrist have some fun with the "loud grip"!
 
Honestly, the oil change is not that bad if you have tools and a means to lift the machine when needed.

As for break in, pretty simple. Don't run low rpm high loads. Vary the revs, but some time on cruise control is fine, just alter the speed by 5 mph or so. Accelerate moderately hard to bed in the gearbox.

I would not advise more than 3k for break in. Change the oil and filter. You will notice the gearbox break in / bedding in more than the engine.

Myself, I would also bed in the brakes early with some hard stops simultaneously. If possible, run to say 45, then hard brake to 0, then right back to 45>0 several times.

Also, check to ensure the drive belt is tracking correctly.

Overall though, enjoy the new machine.

BREAK-IN TIME

Find you a nice rolling/curvy road and ride it like you would a new car/truck/motorcycle. Heat soak the motor,then let it cool down abit,then do it all over again. Broke ours in on back country roads and stayed off the interstates untill I had about 500-600 miles on it and most of that was 2-up. good luck and congrats!

Most of us go with varying the speeds and being a bit gentle until after 500 miles or so. My break in was mostly curvy mountain roads and took about 3 days of riding.

This fellow's and my experience (and that of others that I know - none of whom were racers, just drove like they were) all seem to be the same. I just hate pulling plastic as soon as I get it home. And then twice more in 2000 miles.
