Picked up new RT-audio/convenience today. Traded in 2008 yellow with 5700 miles.
Dealer: Honda East, Maumee, Ohio. A good dealer with a great salesman. Jeff Eckman.
I almost decided to keep both. When I drove the 2008 I forgot how fast they really are as I always ride two up, but not on the way to trade it in. That was a fun ride.
The RT is definitely different in the instant speed department but our intent is to take longer tours and this should do very well. The yellow was outfittled with all the gear to make it a touring model but after riding the RT for the few miles I did today there is no comparison.
I may get the trailer also a bit later. I want to make sure we are going to take longer trips where it may come in handy. For now it has enough storage for a long weekend trip.
I do expect some problems with the complexity of the electricals etc. but I had great luck with my first spyder and hoping the same for this one. I did buy the extended warranty just for the "comfort" of knowing most should be taken care of.
Honda East seems to be very reputable on the dealings I have had with them, and they have a technician well trained (and interested) in working on spyders. Takes it serious.
They did the SE-5 clutch recall when they got it ready for delivery and it shifts very smooth, both up and down.
No "funny" steering as some reported on forums. Just grab the
steering wheel lightly and let it follow your lead. Very smooth to me, but I do turn corners slow generally and don't drive too fast in city streets, two lane roads, but on the highway I drive speed limit of state I'm in.
Highway driving was fantastic with the adjustable windshield. I'm 5' 10" and lowest position is good for most, rides and I found that raising it higher if on highway and my wife said it helps keep the wind down for her a bit more than queen slider did on the RS.
Love the cruise control and is a must for the longer rides. Radio is nice but I would not have needed it really. Might be nice for stops and checking weather etc. but Droid phone has all that and more.
I have liked the spyder since my first one and feel that will continue with the RT. Time will tell but for our age group and how we ride it's just right.
Anyone looking to buy black Mooren floorboards, F-1 queen slider, F-1 27" windshield also, Nelson-Rigg side bags, tank bag, back rest (but not base it fits in) let me know. I did not get any consideration for them on trade so they said to just take them off if I wanted and sell them on forums/ebay etc. and I just installed the original windshield and they were happy.
If I forgot something I will post it.
