New rims, what do I need...

Very interesting. We have a place that is about 1 hour away that does the liner stuff. I am not too sure I would trust them enough to have them do it while the brackets are still on the Spyder, but then again they do know what they are doing and may actually do a good job.

Best of luck, and keep us posted.

I believe

I think they have the spray liner stuff that you can do yourself. I know my brother did his own truck bed and it turned out very nice. I'm probably going to look into that today. I'm going to buy several options and play with them a bit before I decide.

Sounds like a plan. Then you can let the rest of us know what works well, and what was not worth the effort.

Testing a product today

So, today I am testing Krylon Semi-Flat Rust Tough Enamel. I am trying it on one of the pegs I took off first (since I have replacements anyway) to see how that goes. If that doesn't work out well...on to Plan B (Herculiner), I have four other pegs to test anyway! But, obviously I'd love for this first option to work out!:D

Black Rims on EBAY

I'm buying new rims and having them powder coated, back and front. What do I need beside the rims? Because I'm not good at technical stuff if you can give me part numbers that would be great. From reading on here I need bearings and a seal or something...but I don't know which ones to get or where to get them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Amanda B, Have you checked out the black rims on Ebay? There are both front and rear. This may save you some cash. Here's the link, http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?...kw=can-am+spyder+roadster&_osacat=10063&bkBtn=.
Good luck.

I already purchased a set from eBay, hopefully it comes with all the bearings!

To those wondering:

Don't use the Krylon Rust Tough stuff looks nice, but it might be tough on rust; however, a finger nail will scratch it off....on to Plan B...

I bought the front rims, the sprocket cover, and the rear wheel for a little over $800 delivered. I asked and was told the bearings and seals and everything needed to put the rear wheel on was included...so at least there's that...but now I gotta figure out how to get the wheels on....and I still want to have them powder coated....I know I'm probably asking for trouble...but once the idea gets in my head it's hard to abandon it...sort of like the captains that go down with their sinking ship...

Ummmm....ataDude are you for hire....lol!! Did you at least end up having the bike the way that you wanted....meaning is there light at the end of the complicated, dark tunnel?

If you can wait a few months.. I'll have a black powdercoated rear wheel/sprocket for sale.

While I'm waiting

While I'm waiting on the Herculiner I figured I'd try some tractor paint. Sanded, used auto primer and tractor paint...no go!

Amanda, I don't have a garage - so I am waiting for better weather to try some options. It is nice here, good enough for riding, but not painting or coating activity.

Yep...cold here too

I think my garage is too cold today! It was nice a couple days, but I think due to how cold it was the paint is having difficulty setting up...so I'm going to wait for it to get a little warmer or get the wood stove going to warm it up in the garage on the weekend and then try.

On the bright side, my smugglers trunk came, but it's hard to tell what it will look like since I have all the panels off! My rims are going to be here on Friday, the handle bar cover is off and the guy is going to take them to powder coat right away!! I'm trying hard to get it ready for a bike show...I have only a month to go so I think I'm trying to hurry the process too much!

Darn

Rims were scheduled to come tomorrow so I had everything set up and ready to go....UPS rescheduled delivery for Monday. Bummer! I thought by Monday or Tuesday I'd have them back and be on to the next phase.

Sorry to hear that. We had some things that were supposed to come in this week that were also rescheduled. I guess the funky weather is wreaking havoc on them as well.

I was trying to figure out if there was some bad weather somewhere. Is there a snow storm somewhere west of Indiana?

Our stuff was coming out of Texas, heading to South Carolina, so there might have been something bad going on between there that impacted your shipment as well. :dontknow:

Broke down...

Well I broke down and bought another set of peg brackets (front and back). I figure that way I can get them powder coated which will be better than anything I could do and I'll have the guy that is certified to work on Spyders deal with those too. So, I'll have a set to sell once I'm finished for anyone else that is thinking of going the powder coat route. That way I also figured if I'm still waiting on them, I can ride and get my spyder to the bike show (I hope it's finished though)!

It was probably a wise move to go that route. I don't know how much extra it is costing you, but hopefully you will be able to sell your other parts and recoup some of that. I know that XXX74 was selling all of those parts you wanted to powder coat, and a few extras, as a package deal out here at one time. Not sure if he ever sold it or not though.

Hopefully this will also get you on the fast track to make that show.

I didn't set me back too bad

Getting them didn't set me back too bad. I saw that big package for sale, but he didn't want to break them up so I didn't go that route.

I think I'll recoup at least some of that money, others want to powder coat and in the summer having a spare set would still allow them to ride while it is being done.
