Ive been using 2 small bungie cords crisscrossed.

I keep my rain gear on one side and my wife's on the other. Wish I had thought of selling their item years ago when I first did this.

I think that is a good solution for stowing most things. It appears that the loops for attaching the removable net would also allow you to use bungees if you wish. I'll let you know when mine arrive. The "double-duty" capability appeals to me.
